WPPA / T-102 SPORTS / Friday

PHILADELPHIA (AP) - Convicted dogfighting-ring operator Michael
Vick hopes to own a dog again someday - and the head of the Humane
Society of the United States says he's fine with that, once Vick is
off probation. The Eagles quarterback tells TheGrio.com that he
genuinely cares for animals and one day hopes to have a dog as a
household pet.

IRVING, Texas (AP) - Two people with direct knowledge of the
decision say Cowboys linebacker Anthony Spencer has been fined
$12,500 by the NFL for knocking helmets with Philadelphia
quarterback Michael Vick. Spencer was penalized for a personal foul
on the hard hit right after Vick threw the ball on what was an
incompletion late in the first half Sunday night.

PITTSBURGH (AP) - Steelers tight end Heath Miller has missed
practice due to an exercise-related headache, putting his status
for Sunday's game against the Jets in question. Miller sustained a
concussion December 5th against Baltimore, causing him to miss last
week's game against Cincinnati. Ravens linebacker Jameel McClain
was fined $40,000 for the helmet hit.

FLORHAM PARK, N.J. (AP) - Jets cornerback Darrelle Revis has
been limited at practice by "a little soreness" in his right
hamstring, but expects to play in the team's game at Pittsburgh on
Sunday. Coach Rex Ryan says Revis was an addition to the injury
report "that's more precautionary." Revis didn't want to discuss
the injury, saying that he was playing and he's "fine."

CORAL GABLES, Fla. (AP) - Al Golden is taking five members of
his Temple staff with him to Miami. Golden announced hirings of
defensive coordinator Mark D'Onofrio, defensive line coach Jethro
Franklin and defensive backs coach Paul Williams. They will not
begin coaching at Miami until January 1st but have permission from
the NCAA to start recruiting immediately.

PITTSBURGH (AP) - Mario Lemieux will be joined by Hall of Famers
Paul Coffey, Ron Francis, Bryan Trottier and Larry Murphy on the
Pittsburgh Penguins' roster for a Winter Classic alumni game
against the Washington Capitals on December 31st. The outdoor game
will be played the day before the Capitals-Penguins game at Heinz
Field.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) - Three-time defending national champion
Penn State advanced to the NCAA volleyball national title game,
sweeping Texas in the semifinals last night. Penn State came back
from a two-set deficit to beat Texas in last year's national
championship match. Penn State will face California for the
championship tomorrow night.
