UNDATED (AP) - It's wild card weekend with two games opening the NFL playoffs today. The defending Super Bowl champion New Orleans Saints invade Qwest Field to play the 7-9 NFC West champion Seattle Seahawks followed by the Indianapolis Colts hosting the wild-card New York Jets. Our coverage of the NFL playoffs begins at 4pm today.
PHILADELPHIA (AP) - DeSean Jackson can score anytime he touches
the ball from anywhere on the field. The problem for the Philadelphia Eagles is they don't have much success when opponents shut Jackson down. The Pro Bowl wide receiver had just 11 catches for 107 yards and no touchdowns in the Birds' four losses. The
Packers are sure to key in on Jackson during tomorrow's wild card playoff opener at the Linc in Philly. You can hear that game tomorrow afternoon around 4:30 on WPPA Sports.
PHILADELPHIA (AP) - Jodie Meeks scored 24 points, Lou Williams had 20, and the 76ers avenged a 45-point loss to Chicago with a 105-99 victory over the Bulls last night. Jrue Holiday added 19 for the 76ers, who lost 121-76 on December 21st in Chicago.
MONTREAL (AP) - Penguins captain Sidney Crosby is expected to be sidelined for a week because of a concussion. Crosby, who leads the NHL with 32 goals and 66 points, missed the Penguins' 2-1 shootout loss in Montreal Thursday night. He was evaluated by team doctors.
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (AP) - Pittsburgh players say they will be playing for Dave Wannstedt even though he will be far away when the Panthers face Kentucky on Saturday in the BBVA Compass Bowl in Birmingham. Wannstedt resigned December 8th under pressure following a disappointing 7-5 season. Defensive coordinator Phil Bennett is
serving as Pitt's acting head coach. That game can be heard here on WPPA at 11:20 this morning.
STORRS, Conn. (AP) - UConn athletic director Jeff Hathaway is reportedly set to meet with Penn State defensive coordinator Tom Bradley this weekend about the school's vacant head football coach position. Bradley is also a candidate for the same job at Pitt.
ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) - The LSU Tigers rallied for a 41-24 victory over No. 18 Texas A&M in the Cotton Bowl last night. Head coach Les Miles is likely a leading candidate for the coaching vacancy at Michigan.
