PHILADELPHIA (AP) - Despite two goals from Kris Versteeg, the
Philadelphia Flyers fell to the Toronto Maple Leafs last night,
3-2. Sergei Bobrovsky stopped 30 shots in the game. For the Leafs,
Darryl Boyce, Nikolai Kulemin and Dion Phaneuf got scores as
Toronto continued its late push to make the NHL playoffs.

FORT MYERS, Fla. (AP) - Cole Hamels tossed one-hit ball over
four innings and the Phillies downed the Boston Red Sox, 2-0,
yesterday in Fort Myers, Florida. Hamels struck out three and
walked one. Stolmy Pimentel started for Boston with Josh Beckett
sidelined after being hit in the head by a batted ball on Monday.
Pimentel gave up two runs over two innings.

DUNEDIN, Fla. (AP) - The Pirates' Brad Lincoln threw three
perfect innings and Pedro Alvarez's go-ahead triple led Pittsburgh
to a 4-1 win yesterday over the Toronto Blue Jays in Dunedin,
Florida. Alvarez's hit in the sixth gave the Bucs a 2-1 lead. The
Blue Jays did nick Pirates starter Charlie Morton for a first
inning run.

MOON TOWNSHIP, Pa. (AP) - Velton Jones scored a career-high 29
points to lead Robert Morris past Wagner last night, 78-74, in the
quarterfinals of the Northeast Conference tournament. The Colonials
went 6 of 6 from the free-throw line over the final 23 seconds to
seal the win. Robert Morris will face Quinnipiac in the tourney's
semifinals.

NEW YORK (AP) - Julian Boyd scored 20 points while Jamal
Olasewere added 18 with 12 rebounds as Long Island University
downed St. Francis, 90-75 in the quarterfinals of the Northeast
Conference tournament. The top-seeded Blackbirds shot 55.4 percent
from the field to win their 11th in a row. St. Francis was called
for 29 fouls, nearly twice Long Island's 15. Kameron Ritter led St.
Francis with 20 points.

BUFFALO, N.Y. (AP) - Former Pitt football coach Dave Wannstedt
is defending the school's program after a Sports Illustrated
article that concluded the Panthers led the nation's ranked teams
in players getting into trouble with the law. Wannstedt
acknowledges what he calls "an unfortunate stretch of incidents"
last summer, when four players were arrested. Wannstedt is now an
assistant with the Buffalo Bills.
