WPPA / T-102 SPORTS / Saturday

TORONTO (AP) - Ryan Howard hit a go-ahead two-run single in the
ninth inning and the Phillies rallied past the Toronto Blue Jays
7-6 yesterday. Danys Baez pitched one inning of relief for the win,
and Antonio Bastardo closed it out for his fourth save in as many
chances.

WASHINGTON (AP) - Matt Stairs drove in the winning run in the
bottom of the ninth last night to give Washington a 2-1 win over
the Pittsburgh Pirates. Stairs' drive off the right-field wall
scored pinch-runner Alex Cora to give Davey Johnson his first win
as Washington's interim manager.

NEWTOWN SQUARE, Pa. (AP) - K.J. Choi is trying to show he can
win the AT&T National no matter where it's played. Choi won this
tournament in 2007 at Congressional. He put himself into position
for a repeat at Aronimink yesterday with a 6-under 64 to take a
two-shot lead over Chris Riley among the early starters.

PHILADELPHIA (AP) - Free-agent forward Jaromir Jagr on Friday
surprised many around the league, signing a one-year contract with
the Flyers. The 39-year-old former NHL MVP has spent the past three
seasons playing in Russia. Jagr chose Philadelphia over his
original team, the Penguins. The Flyers' deal is worth $3.3
million. The Penguins' offer was for $2 million.

PHILADELPHIA (AP) - The Flyers on Friday signed free-agent
forward Maxime Talbot to a five-year contract. The 5-foot-11,
190-pound center had eight goals and 21 points last season for the
Penguins. Talbot's deal is worth $9 million, and he became the
second former Penguin in one day to decide to play on the other
side of Pennsylvania.

SUNRISE, Fla. (AP) - The Panthers have acquired Kris Versteeg
from Philadelphia in a deal in which Florida sent two draft picks
to the Flyers. Versteeg had 21 goals and 25 assists with Toronto
and Philadelphia last season. The right winger had seven goals in
27 games with the Flyers, who had acquired him at the trade
deadline.

PITTSBURGH (AP) - The Penguins have re-signed forward Tyler
Kennedy to a two-year contract worth $4 million. Kennedy had 21
goals and 45 points in 80 games last season with Pittsburgh. In 266
career NHL games, Kennedy has 59 goals and 124 points.

PITTSBURGH (AP) - Free-agent forward Steve Sullivan is coming to
the Penguins on a one-year contract, worth $1.5 million. Sullivan
is a 15-year veteran who had 10 goals and 22 points for Nashville
last season. He spent six seasons with the Predators, and has 682
career points.

NEW YORK (AP) - Nike has re-signed Eagles quarterback Michael
Vick to an endorsement deal, nearly four years after dropping him
amid his legal troubles. Nike terminated his contract in August
2007 after he filed a plea agreement admitting his involvement in a
dogfighting ring. Vick spent 21 months in prison.
