PHILADELPHIA (AP) - Roy Halladay went the distance yesterday to
help the Philadelphia Phillies beat the Oakland Athletics 3-1. The
Phils have won each of Halladay's last eight starts and the
right-hander is 5-0 with a 2.64 ERA during the stretch.
PHILADELPHIA (AP) - The Philadelphia Phillies are preparing for
a major matchup tomorrow against the Boston Red Sox. Some have
viewed the upcoming series at Citizens Bank Park as a potential
World Series preview. Cliff Lee will start the first game of the
three-game set for the Phils. Josh Beckett will head to the hill
for the Sox.
PITTSBURGH (AP) - The Boston Red Sox beat the Pittsburgh Pirates
4-2 yesterday to snap a 4-game skid. The Pirates tied a season high
with four errors, preventing them from moving three games above
.500 this late in the season for the first time in 12 years.
PITTSBURGH (AP) - Pirates left-fielder Jose Tabata was taken off
the field on a stretcher after hurting his left leg in the first
inning yesterday against the Boston Red Sox. Tabata legged out an
infield single in the first and pulled up after running through the
bag. He toppled to the ground and remained on the grass for several
minutes.
PITTSBURGH (AP) - Boston Red Sox right-fielder J.D. Drew left
yesterday's game against the Pittsburgh Pirates in the second
inning after hurting himself during batting practice. The Red Sox
say Drew hurt his left eye after fouling off a pitch that ended up
hitting him in the face in the batting cage.
HERSHEY, Pa. (AP) - Scott Erdmann and Jeff Sorenson shot 6-under
65s on the Hershey Country Club's East Course. And Lonny Alexander
had a 6-under 66 on the West Course to top the leaderboard
yesterday after the first round of the 44th PGA Professional
National Championship.
UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa (AP) - The 2011 FIFA Women's World Cup is
underway in Germany, and Penn State women's soccer is well
represented. Head Coach Erica Walsh is an assistant on the U.S.
squad. 2006 alumna Ali Krieger is a defender on the team. Former
Nittany Lions Erin McLeod and Carmelina Moscato will play for
