WPPA / T-102 SPORTS / Wednesday

PHILADELPHIA (AP) - The Philadelphia 76ers could be for sale.
Comcast-Spectacor and chairman Ed Snider have owned the Sixers
since 1996. An executive confirms there are ongoing discussions
about the future of the team. The statement from Comcast-Spectacor
chief operating officer Peter Luukko came in response to a report
on ESPN.com.

PITTSBURGH (AP) - Lyle Overbay hit a three-run double to cap a
five-run eighth inning and the Pittsburgh Pirates rallied for an
8-5 win over the Arizona Diamondbacks last night. Arizona was in
position for its seventh consecutive road win after Daniel Hudson
allowed only one earned run through seven innings, but Daniel
Hernandez didn't retire any of the six batters he faced in the
eighth.

PITTSBURGH (AP) - The Pittsburgh Pirates designated reliever
Jose Ascanio for assignment and recalled left-hander Tony Watson
yesterday. Ascanio had a 7.11 ERA in eight games, allowing 10 hits
in 6 1-3 innings in his first action in the majors since 2009.

PHILADELPHIA (AP) - Rubby De La Rosa pitched five effective
innings in his first career start and Dee Gordon had three hits in
his first start, helping the Los Angeles Dodgers beat the
Philadelphia Phillies 6-2 last night. De La Rosa allowed one run,
constantly having to pitch out of trouble because he walked five
and gave up four hits.

COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) - The attorney for Terrelle Pryor says the
quarterback won't return to Ohio State for his senior season.
Columbus lawyer Larry James says his client would most likely make
himself available for an NFL supplemental draft. Pryor had already
been suspended for the first five games of the 2011 season for
accepting improper benefits.

NEW YORK (AP) - The NFL and its players have again held secret
talks at an undisclosed location, seeking a resolution to the labor
impasse. A person familiar with the meetings tells The Associated
Press the two groups did meet yesterday. The person spoke on
condition of anonymity because the meetings are supposed to be
secret.

PITTSBURGH (AP) - The Pittsburgh Penguins have signed assistant
coaches Tony Granato, Todd Reirden and Gilles Meloche to multi-year
contract extensions. The Penguins announced yesterday strength and
conditioning coach Mike Kadar also received a multi-year extension.

GLENDALE, Ariz. (AP) - The Phoenix Coyotes have traded the
negotiating rights of free agent goalie Ilya Bryzgalov to the
Philadelphia Flyers for forward Matt Clackson, a third-round draft
pick in 2012 and future considerations. The Coyotes had made
Bryzgalov and defenseman Keith Yandle, a restricted free agent,
their top priorities this offseason.

EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. (AP) - Corey Fisher is hoping his future
includes a job in the NBA. The Villanova player was one of six
prospective draft picks who worked out yesterday for the New Jersey
Nets at their training facility. It was the seventh pre-draft
working for the Bronx native. He has five more to go before the
draft on June 23rd.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) - Sam Hornish Jr. will return to the Sprint
Cup Series for the first time this season at Pocono Raceway.
Hornish will replace Travis Kvapil in the Number 38 Ford for Front
Row Motorsports. Kvapil will spend the weekend racing in the Trucks
Series event at Texas.

BEDMINSTER, N.J. (AP) - David Sanders of Laurel Creek shot a
3-under 69 and took a two-stroke lead after the first round of the
New Jersey State Golf Association Amateur Championship yesterday.
Jake Goldenring, Matt Finger, 2010 runner-up Pat Wilson and Mike
Stamberger had the only other sub-par rounds.

CHARLESTON, W.Va. (AP) - West Virginia coach-in-waiting Dana
Holgorsen and head coach Bill Stewart are making unwanted headlines
that has the Mountaineers athletic director re-examining his
decision to have them work together. Oliver Luck said yesterday in
a statement he doesn't discuss personnel matters publicly. But when
asked by KDKA-FM whether he would do the same arrangement again, he
said, "I don't know."
