PHILADELPHIA (AP) - Jimmy Rollins, Placido Polanco and Raul
Ibanez homered to back Cole Hamels. With that, the Philadelphia
Phillies handed the Cincinnati Reds their sixth straight loss, 10-3
last night. The Phillies had nine runs combined in the previous six
games. Last night, they scored nine by the third inning.
PHILADELPHIA (AP) - Chase Utley was back in the lineup last
night for the Philadelphia Phillies. The five-time All-Star second
baseman missed the first 46 games with a knee injury. Utley was 0
for 5, the only starter without a hit. His teammates did all the
damage.
PHILADELPHIA (AP) - The Cincinnati Reds have sent former
All-Star right-hander Edinson Volquez to the minors. Volquez was
optioned to Triple-A Louisville along with right-hander Jordan
Smith before last night's game against the Philadelphia Phillies.
Volquez was 3-2 with a 6.35 ERA in 10 starts. He won 17 games and
was an All-Star in 2008.
PITTSBURGH (AP) - The Pittsburgh Pirates are hoping their solid
start doesn't lead to another dismal finish. Pittsburgh is 22-24
heading into a two-game series with the Atlanta Braves. The players
have given much of the praise to the aggressive, no-nonsense
attitude brought by new manager Clint Hurdle.
NEW YORK (AP) - Former Giants receiver Plaxico Burress is
scheduled to be released from prison on June 6th. And according to
a weekend report from The New York Daily News, Burress could be
interested in the Philadelphia Eagles. The report suggests the
Eagles will be first in line to talk to Burress whenever the
lockout ends.
STATE COLLEGE, Pa. (AP) - According to a person in the Penn
State athletic department familiar with the situation, Coach Ed
DeChellis has resigned to take the vacant job at Navy. DeChellis
led Penn State to the NCAA tournament this year. The Patriot-News
of Harrisburg first reported the move late yesterday afternoon.
