PHILADELPHIA (AP) - Jair Jurrjens pitched neatly into the
seventh inning. Freddie Freeman, Alex Gonzalez and Eric Hinske
homered. With that, the Atlanta Braves beat the Philadelphia
Phillies 5-2 last night. Jurrjens allowed one run and eight hits in
6 1-3 innings to outduel Cole Hamels. Jurrjens hasn't allowed more
than two earned runs in any start.
PHILADELPHIA (AP) - The Philadelphia Phillies have placed
catcher Carlos Ruiz on the disabled list because of inflammation in
his back. The move made yesterday is retroactive to April 28th.
Ruiz says he expects to return to action on Friday when he's
eligible to be activated from the 15-day disabled list.
PITTSBURGH (AP) - Ryan Doumit hit a three-run homer in the
eighth inning and the Pittsburgh Pirates improved to .500 this late
in a season for the first time in six years. They beat the Houston
Astros 5-4 yesterday. The Pirates have won five of seven and are
17-17.
PHILADELPHIA (AP) - It's the start of a long offseason for the
Philadelphia Flyers. A year after advancing to the Stanley Cup
Finals, the Flyers positioned themselves as early contenders. Then,
week by week, the season started to unravel. In the end, the Flyers
were swept in the second round by the Boston Bruins.
PITTSBURGH (AP) - University of Pittsburgh guard Ashton Gibbs
has taken his name out of consideration for the NBA Draft. Gibbs
says he's decided to put his professional dreams on hold and return

afternoon, after receiving feedback from NBA general managers and
scouts.
