NEW YORK (AP) - Domonic Brown grounded a tiebreaking single
under the glove of first baseman Daniel Murphy in the ninth inning,
and the Philadelphia Phillies scored three runs off star closer
Francisco Rodriguez to beat the sinking New York Mets 6-4

CHICAGO (AP) - Kevin Correia pitched shutout ball into the
eighth inning before the Pittsburgh Pirates held on to beat the
Chicago Cubs 4-2. Correia limited Chicago to four singles and a
pair of walks in 7 2-3 innings. He moved into a tie with Boston's
Jon Lester for the major league lead in wins.

CLEARWATER, Fla. (AP) - Pittsburgh had its season ended in the
Big East Conference tournament by a 12-2 loss to Louisville. In
another Big East game, Connecticut ousted Notre Dame 9-3.

SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. (AP) - Four PIAA meet records fell during the
PIAA Track and Field Championships on Friday, three before the 82nd
meet was two hours old. Action continues today.

MILWAUKEE (AP) - Brandon Crawford had a memorable major league
debut with a grand slam in his first big league game to help San
Francisco beat Milwaukee 5-4. The 24-year old shortstop connected
in the seventh inning with the Giants trailing by two runs, just a
day after San Francisco purchased his contract.

ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) - Melky Cabrera, Eric Hosmer and Brayan
Pena all homered in the top of the 14th inning to give Kansas City
a 12-7 win over Texas. Cabrera and Hosmer hit back-to-back homers
to break a 7-all tie.

DENVER (AP) - Colby Rasmus drove in three runs in the Cardinals'
10-3 win over Colorado. Rasmus entered the game in an 0-for-20
slump and matched his career high with four hits including two
triples.

NEW YORK (AP) - Domonic Brown had the tiebreaking single in a
three-run ninth to give Philadelphia a 6-4 win over the Mets. Mets
closer Francisco Rodriguez hadn't given up a run since April 17
until the Phillies broke out in the ninth.

UNDATED (AP) - The Big Ten is floating an idea that would allow
athletes at the highest level of college sports to receive money
for personal expenses as part of their scholarship packages.
Advocates of student-athletes welfare say the idea of offering
additional funding above and beyond just what's paid to the
university has been a long time coming.
