ST. LOUIS (AP) - Cliff Lee dominated to help the Philadelphia
Phillies beat the St. Louis Cardinals 4-0 last night. Lee threw a
six-hitter for his second straight shutout. Jimmy Rollins and Ryan
Howard both homered in the fourth inning.
ST. LOUIS (AP) - Philadelphia Phillies right-hander Vance Worley
will get the start against the Oakland A's tomorrow. He was
recalled from Triple-A Lehigh Valley on June 17th. Worley made a
spot start on Saturday in Seattle. He allowed one run on five hits
in five innings. Worley says he'll be ready for the A's.
PITTSBURGH (AP) - The Pittsburgh Pirates beat the Baltimore
Orioles yesterday 5-4. The Orioles' Blake Davis made an error in
his major league debut and Pittsburgh scored the tying and go-ahead
runs in the victory. Pittsburgh took the final two games of the
series to reach .500.
CHESTER, Pa. (AP) - Sporting Kansas City extended its unbeaten
streak to six matches with a 0-0 draw against the Philadelphia
Union last night. The Union improved to 4-0-4 at home, remaining
one of three teams without a loss in their own park.
NEW YORK (AP) - Union officials say NBA players and owners are
about $7 billion apart over a 10-year span in their most recent
proposals. Players' association executive director Billy Hunter
also says under the league's proposal for a new 10-year collective
bargaining agreement, it would take the players until the final
year to get back to where they are now financially.
UNDATED (AP) - A person with knowledge of the talks tells The
Associated Press, NFL owners and players were in the Boston area
yesterday to resume negotiations toward a new collective bargaining
agreement. Commissioner Roger Goodell and members of his labor
committee met yesterday with players' association chief DeMaurice
Smith and several players.
ORLANDO, Fla. (AP) - Tiger Woods will miss another golf
tournament as his left leg recovers from injuries. Woods said on
his Twitter feed that he will not be playing in next week's AT&T
National outside Philadelphia. The tournament supports Woods'
foundation.
LAS VEGAS (AP) - Dan Bylsma of the Pittsburgh Penguins has won
the Jack Adams Award as coach of the year. Bylsma led the Penguins
to the playoffs despite the absences of stars Sidney Crosby and
Evgeni Malkin, who both missed much of the season. The Penguins had
the second-most victories and points in franchise history.
LAS VEGAS (AP) - Philadelphia Flyers forward Ian Laperriere won
the NHL's Masterton Trophy for his perseverance, sportsmanship and
dedication to hockey following a likely career-ending injury in
2010. Laperriere topped fellow finalists Calgary's Daymond Langkow
and Anaheim's Ray Emery during the NHL Awards ceremony.
NEW YORK (AP) - Connecticut basketball star Maya Moore, Penn
State volleyball player Blair Brown and Villanova cross country and
track standout Sheila Reid are the finalists for the
Honda-Broderick Cup. They were chosen among the 12 winners of the
Honda Awards for excellence in academics and sports.
