WPPA / T-102 SPORTS / Friday

PHILADELPHIA (AP) - Jayson Werth hit his fourth home run in
three games, and Ryan Howard hit a three-run shot to lead the
Philadelphia Phillies to a 12-3 victory over the Arizona
Diamondbacks. The Phillies swept the Diamondbacks in three games.
The Phillies have won eighth out of the last nine games. They open
up a series against the Mets tonight.

CLEARWATER, Fla. (AP) - Philadelphia Phillies right-hander Brett
Myers struck out three in his first rehab appearance since having
hip surgery nearly three months ago, an outing pushed back five
days because of a fall. Pitching for Class-A Clearwater yesterday
he gave up two hits and threw 13 of his 19 pitches for strikes.
He's recovering from a torn labrum.

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) - Peyton Manning threw two touchdown passes
last night, leading the Colts to a 23-15 preseason victory over
Philadelphia. The Eagles scored on a 39-yard strike from Donovan
McNabb to DeSean Jackson and again when Adam DiMichele threw a
21-yard TD pass to Brandon Gibson. McNabb was 5 of 7 for 77 yards,
playing without some starters.

PHILADELPHIA (AP) - Dick's has decided to nix Vick -- jerseys,
that is. At least for now. Dick's Sporting Goods says they won't
stock Michael Vick's Eagles jersey until company officials
"evaluate the reaction of Eagles fans." An executive says the
company doesn't know how much of a demand there will be. But he
says if there is a demand, they'll sell them.

LATROBE, Pa. (AP) - Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger has
injured his right ankle. Roethlisberger had an ice pack on the back
of the ankle when he was carted off at the end of yesterday's
practice on Pittsburgh's final day of training camp. There's no
immediate word on the extent of his ankle injury.
