WPPA / T-102 SPORTS / Wednesday

UNDATED (AP) - Connecticut is back in the NCAA women's
basketball Final Four after running its record winning streak to 76
games. Maya (MY'-uh) Moore scored 22 points and the Huskies reached
the semifinals for the eighth time in 10 years by blowing out
Florida State 90-50 in the Dayton Regional final. Oklahoma also
reached the semifinals as Nyeshia Stevenson scored 31 points in the
Sooners' 88-68 rout of Kentucky.

NEW YORK (AP) - Dayton and North Carolina have played themselves
into the NIT final at Madison Square Garden. Chris Johnson scored
22 points, including five key free throws down the stretch to help
the Flyers hold off Mississippi 68-63. The Tar Heels needed
overtime to beat Rhode Island 68-67.

UNDATED (AP) - Steve Lavin and Tim Floyd are college basketball
coaches once again. Lavin has been hired as the new head coach at
St. John's, and Floyd is taking over at Texas-El Paso. Floyd left
USC last year amid allegations of recruiting violations involving
O.J. Mayo and was working as an assistant with the NBA's New
Orleans Hornets.

ST. LUCIE, Fla. - New York Mets shortstop Jose Reyes played in a
minor league game today, going 1-for-5 with a double in his first
action since being sidelined with a thyroid problem. The thyroid
issue has kept him from participating in any Grapefruit League
games so far and leaves his status uncertain for opening day.

HOUSTON (AP) - A team official tells The Associated Press that
Houston Texans middle linebacker Demeco (deh-MEE'-koh) Ryans has
agreed to a six-year contract. Ryans was the 2006 AP Defensive
Rookie of the Year and is the leader of a young Houston team that
went 9-7 last season for its first winning record. Ryans had 123
tackles and a sack and made the Pro Bowl last season.
