PHILADELPHIA (AP) - The Philadelphia Eagles have traded
quarterback Donovan McNabb to Washington for a pair of draft picks.
The Eagles will get a second-round pick and either a third or
fourth-round pick next year. The move means Kevin Kolb (KAHB') will
be the starter in Philadelphia, with Michael Vick as the backup.

PHILADELPHIA (AP) - The trade of Donovan McNabb brings an end to
an era in Philadelphia. McNabb went to six Pro Bowls in 11 seasons
with the Eagles. McNabb also took the team to a Super Bowl, but he
wasn't able to lead the franchise to its first NFL title since
1960.

PHILADELPHIA (AP) - The Flyers got a much-needed win against the
visiting Red Wings. Before Sunday's 4-3 victory over Detroit, the
Flyers had slipped to eighth place in the East with a 1-6-1 record
over their previous eight. Brian Boucher (boo-SHAY') had 31 saves
for Philadelphia. The loss was Detroit's first in regulation in 13
games.

WASHINGTON (AP) - President Barack Obama will do the first pitch
honors when the Phillies open up the season against the Washington
Nationals in the nation's capital today. Philadelphia will go with
their new ace Roy Halladay. John Lannan will get the start for
Washington.

PITTSBURGH (AP) - Warm weather will welcome the Los Angeles
Dodgers to Pittsburgh for opening day against the Pirates today.
Forecasts call for sunny skies and temperatures in the mid-70s this
afternoon, which is warmer than it's predicted to be in L.A. Zach
Duke gets the opening day nod for Pittsburgh, while Vincente
Padilla (vih-SEHN'-tay puh-DEE'-uh) takes the mound for the
Dodgers.

PITTSBURGH (AP) - The Pirates are cutting ties with designated
infielder Ramon Vazquez. The team has designated Vazquez for
assignment, which means they have 10 days to either trade, release
or waive him. Vazquez signed a $4 million, two year deal with
Pittsburgh before the season. The move could cost the team as much
as $2 million.

PITTSBURGH (AP) - Pirates outfielder Steve Pearce has been
optioned to Triple-A Indianapolis. The Pirates have also purchased
the minor league contracts of relievers D.J. Carrasco and Jack
Taschner from Indy. The move means Rule 5 outfielder John Raynor
has made the club despite hitting .229 this spring. Reliever Hayden
Penn is also on the squad.

CLEARWATER, Fla. (AP) - Phillies' closer Brad Lidge threw in the
bullpen yesterday after getting a cortisone injection in his right
elbow. Phillies GM Reuben Amaro tells MLB.com that Lidge
experienced "no pain" and "no issues" during the 25-pitch
session in Clearwater, Florida. Lidge is coming back from offseason
elbow surgery.
