WPPA / T-102 SPORTS / Monday

PHILADELPHIA (AP) - The Flyers' surge through the Stanley Cup
playoffs continued with a 6-0 pasting of Montreal in Philadelphia
last night. The win came just two days after the Flyers knocked off
the Bruins with a 4-3 victory in Game 7 of the semifinals. The
Flyers have won five straight overall and are 5-1 in the playoffs
in front of its orange-clad crowd. Game 2 is tomorrow.

PHILADELPHIA (AP) - Four goals on just 13 shots forced Montreal
to pull star goalie Jaroslav Halak early in the second period last
night. Halak was the biggest factor in the Canadiens' upset wins in
the first two rounds against top-seeded Washington and defending
Stanley Cup champion Pittsburgh. He was replaced by Carey Price.

CHICAGO (AP) - Pinch-hitter Xavier Nady lined a go-ahead single
in the eighth inning as the Cubs rallied to defeat the Pirates 4-3
yesterday. The win was Chicago's first against Pittsburgh after
seven straight losses. The Bucs had a 3-1 lead in the seventh, but
couldn't hold it.

CHICAGO (AP) - Pirates first baseman Steve Pearce was back in
the lineup yesterday two days after hurting his knee. Pearce looked
solid by going 1 for 3, drawing a walk and making two nice
defensive plays.

MILWAUKEE (AP) - The Phillies are heading home after a
three-game sweep in Milwaukee capped by last night's 4-2 win.
Starter Cole Hamels pitched into the seventh inning despite giving
up back-to-back home runs to Casey McGehee and Corey Hart in the
sixth. He helped himself on offense as well, delivering an RBI
double in the second.

MILWAUKEE (AP) - Phillies shortstop Jimmy Rollins should be back
in the lineup today. MLB.com reports Rollins flew back to
Philadelphia from Florida yesterday after a stint in Clearwater
rehabbing a strained calf. A team official says Rollins will be
evaluated today. If all goes well, he'll be activated before
tonight's game against the Pirates.

PRINCETON, N.J. (AP) - Many members of the U.S. World Cup team
have headed to Philadelphia to take physicals ahead of the start of
workouts tomorrow in Princeton, New Jersey. Midfielder Alejandro
Bedoya is playing a match with his Swedish club team today before
reporting to training camp.

PHILADELPHIA (AP) - Philadelphia's Danny Mwanga scored an
unassisted goal just as time was about to expire Saturday to help
the Union salvage a 1-1 tie against FC Dallas. Philadelphia had
plenty of scoring opportunities, especially in the first half, but
couldn't convert on nine shots on goal. The Union had lost four
straight after beating D.C. United last month.
