MONTREAL (AP) - The Canadiens have forced a deciding Game 7 in
the Eastern Conference semifinals after a 4-3 win over the
Penguins. Michael Cammalleri and Jarolslav Spacek netted a pair of
goals about 2:30 apart in the second period to give the Habs a 4-2
lead in Montreal. They went on to win 4-3. Game 7 is tomorrow in
Pittsburgh.
BOSTON (AP) - Michael Leighton came off the bench for injured
Flyers goalie Brian Boucher (boo-SHAY') and made 14 saves to
complete a 4-0 shutout of the Bruins in Boston. The win means the
series will return to Philadelphia for Game 6 tomorrow. The Bruins
hold a 3-2 edge in the Eastern Conference semifinals. Boucher hurt
his knee at the bottom of a pileup in the second period.
DENVER (AP) - Hot-hitting catcher Carlos Ruiz had four hits to
power the Phillies past the Rockies 9-5 in Colorado. Ruiz had a
sixth inning homer and a tiebreaking single in the ninth that
scored Ryan Howard from second. Pinch-hitter Ross Gload then
knocked out a three-run homer to finish off the Rockies. Danys Baez
gets the win for Philadelphia.
PITTSBURGH (AP) - The Reds' Bronson Arroyo shut down the Pirates
by giving up just a run over seven-plus innings in a 2-1 win over
the Bucs in Pittsburgh. Scott Rolen and Laynce Nix provided the
offense for Cincinnati by doubling in runs. Pirates right-hander
Ross Ohlendorf pitched four innings in his second start of the
season.
PITTSBURGH (AP) - The Pittsburgh Pirates have designated
right-handed reliever Brian Bass for assignment. Bass had a 12.79
ERA after allowing nine earned runs in 6-plus innings. The move
makes room for starter Ross Ohlendorf, who returned from the
disabled list yesterday.
MINNEAPOLIS (AP) - Former Raptors head coach Sam Mitchell has
met with the 76ers about the team's head coaching vacancy. Mitchell
talked with team officials over the weekend, as did former Pistons
star and current Timberwolves assistant Bill Laimbeer.
NEWTOWN SQUARE, Pa. (AP) - Tiger Woods says there's "no
connection" between the neck pain that forced him to withdraw from
The Players Championship and his car accident last November. Woods
says he feels pain in the right side of his neck and fears it may
be the result of a bulging disk. The comments came during a news
conference in suburban Philadelphia to promote July's AT&T National
tournament.
