BOSTON (AP) - The Bruins' Milan Lucic scored to break a two-all
tie with just under three minutes to help Boston beat the Flyers
3-2 and take a 2-0 lead in the best-of-seven Eastern Conference
semifinals. Mike Richards and Danny Briere scored for the Flyers.
Game 3 is tomorrow in Philadelphia.
MONTREAL (AP) - The Penguins might feel a little love from the
crowd at Montreal's Bell Centre during tonight's Game 3 of the
Eastern Conference semifinals. Penguins legend and team owner Mario
Lemieux is a Montreal native and Pittsburgh's lineup boasts four
Quebecers, including goalie Marc-Andre Fleury.
PHILADELPHIA (AP) - Phillies starter Joe Blanton had a solid
first outing of the year, but it wasn't enough as the Phillies lost
to the Cardinals 6-3 in Philadelphia. Blanton went 6-plus innings
and allowed four runs after coming off the disabled list from an
oblique strain. But the Phils couldn't get their bats going against
Cardinals starter Jaime Garcia.
PHILADELPHIA (AP) - Phillies reliever Ryan Madson will have
surgery today on the broken right toe he injured when he kicked a
chair after blowing a save last week. The team says it will have
better timetable for Madson's return once the procedure is
complete.
PITTSBURGH (AP) - Ben Roethlisberger has reportedly spent a
weekend in a clinic being evaluated as part of sanctions handed
down by the NFL. The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports the behavioral
evaluation of the Steelers quarterback is expected to be finished
in days rather than weeks. Roethlisberger was ordered to undergo
the evaluation and suspended six games after being accused of
sexual assault.
PITTSBURGH (AP) - Steelers wide receiver Limas Sweed has
undergone surgery to repair a damaged left Achilles' tendon. The
team hasn't said whether Sweed tore or ruptured the tendon during
the final day of the team's three-day minicamp on Sunday. The
Steelers haven't estimated how long he will be out.
PHILADELPHIA (AP) - Former NBA coach Avery Johnson has been
interviewed by the Philadelphia 76ers for their coaching position.
The Sixers say that Johnson met yesterday with general manager Ed
Stefanski in Houston. Stefanski says the meeting was
"informative." The Sixers have also interviewed former player and
coach Doug Collins.
PHILADELPHIA (AP) - Philadelphia's legendary Broad Street
Bullies will be spotlighted in a new HBO documentary that premieres
tonight on the cable network. The Flyers teams of the 1970s slugged
their way to a pair of Stanley Cups. The documentary is the first
HBO feature to tackle the NHL.
