WPPA / T-102 SPORTS / Monday

PHOENIX (AP) - The Phillies dropped the rubber game of their
three-game set with Arizona 8-6. Mark Reynolds hit a tiebreaking
RBI double in the eighth to put the Diamondbacks ahead for good.
The Phillies allowed a season high 15 hits to Arizona. Greg Dobbs
homered for the Phils and Carlos Ruiz had a pair of RBIs.

HOUSTON (AP) - The Astros have completed a three-game sweep of
the Pirates with a 10-3 victory in Houston. Pirates starter Charlie
Morton lasted only three innings for the Bucs, giving up five runs
on five hits. He's allowed 24 earned runs on the season. Pittsburgh
has dropped six in a row.

HOUSTON (AP) - Pirates pitcher Chris Jakubauskas
(jak-uh-BOW'-skuhs) has released from a Houston hospital and is
expected to be in Milwaukee with his teammates tonight. Jakubauskas
was placed on the 15-day disabled list with a concussion and head
contusion after being hit in the head by a line drive Saturday.

HOUSTON (AP) - The Pirates have recalled left-hander Brian
Burres from Triple-A Indianapolis and also purchased the contract
of right-hander Brian Bass. Righty Daniel McCutchen is being sent
down to Indianapolis and outfielder Brandon Jones has been
designated for assignment in order to clear roster space for Bass.

ST. LOUIS (AP) - Former Eagle Brian Westbrook could be St.
Louis-bound. Westbrook had a physical with the Rams over the
weekend. The Eagles released him in February. The running back
missed eight games last year with a pair of concussions and an
ankle injury.

PITTSBURGH (AP) - Second round playoff tickets for the
Pittsburgh Penguins go on sale today at noon. About 1,500 seats are
being made available. The dates and times of the games will be
announced by the NHL when all the playoff pairings are set.

STATE COLLEGE, Pa. (AP) - Penn State's defense enters the
offseason with confidence after a solid showing at the Blue-White
game over the weekend. Defensive coordinator Tom Bradley is happy
with the effort his unit put out against the Nittany Lions' shaky
offense. Penn State's new linebacking corps stood out with Nate
Stupar grabbing an interception and Bani Gbadyu (BAH-nee Bah-JOO)
laying a big hit on tight end Garry Gilliam.

STATE COLLEGE, Pa. (AP) - Penn State coach Joe Paterno wants the
Big Ten to expand, and he wants it to grow by more than one team.
Paterno says he'd prefer three teams be added to the conference,
with one new school from the West and two more from the East.
Paterno predicts the Pac-10 will expand first and the Big Ten will
have to grow to keep up.
