NEW YORK (AP) - NFL commissioner Roger Goodell says Pittsburgh
Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger has violated the league's
personal-conduct policy. Goodell told the Dan Patrick radio show
yesterday that Roethlisberger's key issue is a "pattern of
behavior." Goodell says there's no timetable on a decision on
disciplining Roethlisberger.
PITTSBURGH (AP) - Ben Roethlisberger is back practicing with the
his Pittsburgh teammates, a week after he learned he wouldn't be
charged for sexual assault. The quarterback is taking part in the
team's voluntary on-field practices this week.
PITTSBURGH (AP) - Steelers wide receiver Limas Sweed has
returned to practice since the first time since leaving the team
late last season to deal with personal issues. The team hasn't said
exactly why Sweed left the team. The former Texas star says he
appreciates the support given to him by the team.
PITTSBURGH (AP) - Pittsburgh Steelers punter Daniel Sepulveda
has signed a one-year tender worth nearly $1.8 million. Sepulveda
was a restricted free agent, but no other NFL clubs were willing to
give the Steelers a draft pick to sign him. He averaged 42.7 yards
a punt last season and had at least one punt of 50 yards in 11
games.
BETHLEHEM, Pa. (AP) - Prosecutors in Northhampton County have
dropped a marijuana possession charge filed against Philadelphia
Eagles defensive end Juqua Parker last summer. The Allentown
Morning Call reports Parker was riding in a van driven by offensive
lineman Todd Herremans when the vehicle was pulled over in Lower
Saucon Township.
PHILADELPHIA (AP) - The Eagles have acquired linebacker Ernie
Sims in a three-way trade with Denver and Detroit. The Eagles are
sending a fifth-round pick to Denver. The Broncos are sending tight
end Tony Scheffler to the Lions, who are trading Sims to
Philadelphia. Sims is the former ninth overall pick out of Florida
State in 2006.
PHILADELPHIA (AP) - Phillies pitcher J.A. Happ will miss his
next start because of a sore left elbow. General manager Ruben
Amaro Jr. says an MRI revealed a "very mild" strain and the team
will take a "conservative approach" by skipping Happ's turn in
the rotation tomorrow. Philadelphia opens a three-game series in
Atlanta tonight.
PHILADELPHIA (AP) - Phillies pitcher Joe Blanton is slated to
make a rehab start in Florida tonight as he works his way off the
disabled list from a strained muscle. Blanton threw about 60
pitches Sunday in a bullpen session, saying afterward that he felt
good. He's expected to make three rehab starts before joining the
Phillies rotation in early May.
LOUDONVILLE, N.Y. (AP) - Siena guard Ronald Moore has been
charged with drunken driving after being pulled over near the
college's suburban campus near Albany, New York. The Albany
Times-Union reports the Conshohocken native was stopped early
Sunday for several traffic violations. Moore has helped lead Siena
to the NCAA tournament the past three seasons.
