OTTAWA (AP) - The Penguins have taken a 2-1 series lead over the
Senators in their first-round playoff series after last night's 4-2
victory in Ottawa. Sidney Crosby had a goal and an assist and
Evgeni Malkin scored his third playoff goal while Marc-Andre Fleury
made 20 saves. Game 4 is tomorrow in Canada.
OTTAWA (AP) - Penguins defenseman Jordan Leopold didn't travel
with the team to Ottawa. Penguins coach Dan Bylsma tells the
Pittsburgh Post-Gazette that Leopold has remained in Pittsburgh
with concussion-like symptoms. Leopold will undergo further testing
after being knocked out by a hit from Ottawa defenseman Andy Sutton
on Friday.
PHILADELPHIA (AP) - Dan Carcillo's overtime goal has given the
Flyers a 2-1 advantage in their playoff series with New Jersey.
Carcillo scored 3:35 into the extra session to give Philadelphia a
3-2 victory over the Devils. The series resumes with Game 4
tomorrow in Philadelphia.
PHILADELPHIA (AP) - The Phillies dropped the rubber game of
their home set with the Marlins 2-0 yesterday. It's the first
series loss for the Phillies this year. Philadelphia wasted a solid
outing by Cole Hamels, who struck out eight and walked none in
eight innings of work.
PHILADELPHIA (AP) - Injured Phillies pitcher Joe Blanton threw a
successful bullpen session before yesterday's game. Blanton threw
about 60 pitches and told MLB.com he felt "good." Blanton is
expected to make a minor-league rehab start tomorrow and hopes to
be back with the Phillies by the first week of May.
PITTSBURGH (AP) - The Pirates have swept the Reds with a 5-3 win
in Pittsburgh yesterday. Paul Maholm pitched four-hit ball into the
seventh inning for the Bucs. It's the first time Cincinnati has
been swept since the Pirates did it in April of 2008. The Reds have
lost five in a row.
PITTSBURGH (AP) - The Pirates are now 5-1 on the year at home.
This is the first time they've won their first two home series
since 1992. Pittsburgh has only had one winning record at home
since PNC Park opened in 2001.
PITTSBURGH (AP) - Ben Roethlisberger is expected to be on the
practice field today with his Steelers teammates. The quarterback
is expected to take snaps during the voluntary practice. It comes a
week after prosecutors decided not to charge Roethlisberger after a
college student accused him of sexual assault.
