WPPA / T-102 SPORTS / Friday

PITTSBURGH (AP) - The Penguins are sending out the Igloo in
style. Pittsburgh won its final regular season game in the
49-year-old Mellon Arena 7-3 over the Islanders last night. The
Pens brought back more than 50 of their former players, coaches and
executives to celebrate the arena.

PITTSBURGH (AP) - Pittsburgh Penguins captain Sidney Crosby
appeared to reach the 50-goal mark for the first time in his
five-season career, but it was taken away by video review long
after the game ended. Crosby was instead credited with an assist.
Crosby has two more games to try to get his 50th goal, tomorrow at
Atlanta and Sunday at the Islanders.

PITTSBURGH (AP) - The Dodgers avoided a season opening sweep in
Pittsburgh with a 10-2 victory over the Pirates yesterday. Los
Angeles racked up 16 hits even though they were playing
short-handed against the Bucs. Andre Ethier and Manny Ramierez both
sat out the game.

WASHINGTON (AP) - The Phillies were handed their first loss of
the year after Washington's Ryan Zimmerman hit a blooper to shallow
right that landed inches fair to drive in the winning run in the
seventh inning of a Nationals 6-5 victory. Nelson Figueroa gets the
loss for the Phillies. Washington's Tyler Clippard gets the win.

WASHINGTON (AP) - The Phillies have sent down righty Andrew
Carpenter to Triple-A Lehigh Valley in order to make room for
reliever Nelson Figueroa. Figueroa was claimed off waivers from the
Mets earlier this week.

ORLANDO, Fla. (AP) - An attorney for Steelers wide receiver
Santonio Holmes says he's sent Orlando Police evidence that will
clear his client against allegations that he threw a glass at a
woman in a nightclub. The lawyer didn't say what the evidence is.

STATE COLLEGE, Pa. (AP) - Penn State guard Talor Battle is
entering the NBA draft. Battle says he won't hire an agent, meaning
he has until May 8th to change his mind and return to school.
Battle hopes to hold workouts for several NBA teams during the next
few weeks, but none have been scheduled.

PHILADELPHIA (AP) - Usain Bolt will be taking part in this
year's Penn Relays in Philadelphia. The world's fastest man is
competing in the 4X100 meter relay as part of the USA vs. The World
event on April 24th. Bolt won the 100 and 200 in the 2008 Olympics
and was part of the Jamaican 4X100 team that captured a gold medal
and set a world record.
