MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. (AP) - The woman who has accused Steelers
quarterback Ben Roethlisberger of sexual assault says she tried to
get away from the NFL star and told him "no, this is not OK."
Prosecutors have decided against charging Roethlisberger in the
case. The quarterback denies the allegations.
PITTSBURGH (AP) - Steelers president Art Rooney II says the team
is ready to discipline Ben Roethlisberger but the punishment will
be coordinated with the NFL and won't pre-empt any league action.
Rooney says Roethlisberger told him he's prepared to accept
disciplinary action.
PHILADELPHIA (AP) - Ryan Zimmerman delivered the go-ahead, two
run-homer in the eighth inning that gave the Washington Nationals a
7-5 win over the Phillies yesterday. The loss snaps Philadelphia's
five-game winning streak. Chase Utley and Shane Victorino homered
for the Phillies.
PHILADELPHIA (AP) - Phillies closer Brad Lidge says he'd like to
return to the team before the end of the month. Lidge has been
pitching in the minors while recovering from offseason knee and
elbow surgeries. Lidge was in Philadelphia yesterday to pick up his
National League championship ring.
PHILADELPHIA (AP) - The Philadelphia Eagles have re-signed guard
Max Jean-Gilles to a one-year contract. Jean-Gilles had been a
restricted free agent. He's played in 29 regular-season games with
the Birds, starting 16 of them.
PITTSBURGH (AP) - The Penguins try to even up their
opening-round playoff series with the Senators tonight in
Pittsburgh. Ottawa's surprising Game 1 victory has made the
Penguins' road to repeating as Stanley Cup champions a whole lot
tougher. Penguins star Sidney Crosby says the loss should give his
team more motivation.
NEWARK, N.J. (AP) - Devils goaltender Martin Brodeur says he's
not worried about another potential early exit from the playoffs.
New Jersey lost 2-1 to Philadelphia in Game 1 of their
opening-round playoff series Wednesday. The Devils haven't
progressed past the first round in the past two seasons. Game 2 is
tonight in New Jersey.
TORONTO (AP) - An 81st-minute goal gave Toronto a 2-1 over the
Philadelphia Union last night in Canada. The go-ahead goal came
after Philadelphia Union goalkeeper Chris Seitz took down an
onrushing O'Brian White in the penalty box. Dwayne De Rosario took
advantage by putting away the penalty kick for Toronto FC.
