WPPA / T-102 SPORTS / Friday

PITTSBURGH (AP) - The Senators outlasted the Penguins in a
marathon Game 5 of their first round playoff series. Matt Carkner
scored at 7:06 of the third overtime to give the Senators a 4-3
victory. Sidney Crosby had a goal and an assist to give him
multiple points in every postseason game this season. Kris Letang
and Chris Kunitz also scored for Pittsburgh.

NEWARK, N.J. (AP) - The Philadelphia Flyers have reached the
second round of the NHL playoffs by closing out the Devils with a
3-0 win in New Jersey. Claude Giroux scored twice in the second
period after Danny Briere had given the Flyers a 1-0 lead in the
first. Goaltender Brian Boucher finished with 27 saves for his
second career NHL playoff shutout.

PITTSBURGH (AP) - The Pirates couldn't get anything going at the
plate and certainly couldn't shut down the Brewers' bats as
Milwaukee piled up 25 hits in a 20-0 rout of the Bucs at PNC Park.
Jim Edmonds, Ryan Braun, George Kottaras and Prince Fielder all had
homers for Milwaukee. They were among 10 Brewers with an RBI
yesterday.

ATLANTA (AP) - Jamie Moyer gave up no earned runs in six innings
and the Phillies beat up the weak-hitting Atlanta Braves 8-3 to win
the season's first series between the NL East rivals. The Braves
came into the game with just a .227 team batting average. Juan
Castro had three hits and Shane Victorino drove in two runs for
Philadelphia.

ATLANTA (AP) - Phillies lefty J.A. Happ is on the 15-day
disabled list with a strained forearm. The move is retroactive to
April 16th. Reliever J.C. Romero has been activated from Triple-A
Lehigh Valley. Romero had been recovering from left elbow surgery.

PITTSBURGH (AP) - The Pittsburgh Steelers settled on Florida
center Maurkice Pouncey with the 18th pick in the NFL draft. He's
the first center they've drafted in the first round in 69 years.
Pouncey is 6-foot-5 and 305 pounds and can play guard or center.

PITTSBURGH (AP) - Jets wide receiver Santonio Holmes says he
made some mistakes during his Steelers career. The team traded him
to New York for a fifth-round pick following a series of off-field
problems. Holmes says on his website that he's not proud of his
mistakes, but he did learn from them.

PHILADELPHIA (AP) - The Eagles traded up 11 spots in the NFL
draft take Michigan defensive end Brandon Graham. The Birds gave
their 24th overall pick and a pair of third round picks to Denver
for the Broncos' spot at Number 13. Graham had 29 1/2 sacks in 46
games with the Wolverines.

PHILADELPHIA (AP) - The Eagles have re-signed punter Sav Rocca
to a one-year deal. Rocca was the team's last unsigned restricted
free agent. Rocca averaged a net of more than 38 yards a punt last
year. He played 15 years in the Australian Football League before
coming to Philadelphia.

STATE COLLEGE, Pa. (AP) - Penn State's All-Big Ten center is
changing positions. Stefen Wisniewski is back at right guard as
part of a major spring tinkering with the Nittany Lion front five.
Coach Joe Paterno is trying to replace two starters from last
year's squad. Wisniewski's on board with the move, he says he's
more comfortable at guard than center
