N.Y. Mets 9, Philadelphia 1
PHILADELPHIA (AP) - Rod Barajas homered twice, Jonathon Niese pitched seven impressive innings and the surging New York Mets routed the Philadelphia Phillies 9-1 for their eighth straight victory. David Wright and Jeff Francoeur also homered for the Mets, riding their longest winning streak since a 10-game run in July 2008.
PHILADELPHIA (AP) - Now that the Phillies are getting closer Brad Lidge back from the disabled list, reliever Ryan Madson is going to be sidelined. Madson, who filled in as the closer, went on the disabled list yesterday with a broken right toe. The team says he got hurt while blowing a save Wednesday. The Phillies have recalled left-hander Antonio Bastardo from Triple-A Lehigh Valley.
L.A. Dodgers 6, Pittsburgh 2
LOS ANGELES (AP) - Andre Ethier jump-started the Dodgers' offense with a two-run homer and James Loney added a three-run shot, leading Los Angeles to a 6-2 victory over the Pittsburgh Pirates. Chad Billingsley allowed two runs and six hits over six innings to help the Dodgers snap a five-game losing streak.

Pennsylvania teams update
PHILADELPHIA (AP) - Philadelphia's No. 1 draft pick out of Michigan practiced for the first time with his pro team at minicamp yesterday. B Brandon Graham found himself among a crowded field of defensive ends and he ran with the second team. But both the Eagles and Graham expect him to be the starter at left defensive end in September.
PITTSBURGH (AP) - Steelers wide receiver Hines Ward says quarterback Ben Roethlisberger's six-game suspension is disappointing but justified. Ward doesn't think Roethlisberger will have any trouble regaining his teammates' confidence once he returns, but Ward says being without a proven big-game quarterback to start the season is creating considerable uncertainty.
FLORHAM PARK, N.J. (AP) - The New York Jets say authorities at the Pittsburgh airport filed an incident report after wide receiver Santonio Holmes failed to follow flight regulations by not turning off his iPod as his flight was landing there Thursday night. The team says police officers reminded Holmes about complying with flight regulations, but the former Steelers receiver wasn't charged.

HORSE RACING
Kentucky Derby, Churchill Downs, Louisville, Ky., 6:28 p.m.
LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) - Heavy rain has postponed early morning workouts at Churchill Downs, where all 20 Kentucky Derby horses are still expected to start. Most turf races were being moved to the main dirt track Saturday, at least until late in the day. That sparked numerous scratches in minor races. Kentucky state veterinarian Bryce Peckham said he knew of at least 15-20 horses that wouldn't be running in the Derby undercard. Many trainers, including Nick Zito and D. Wayne Lukas, were out early to watch their horses walk inside their covered barns instead of the track. The National Weather Service says only light rainfall is
expected Saturday afternoon ahead of the 6:28 p.m. Derby post, with heavier showers overnight.
