WPPA / T-102 SPORTS / Tuesday

CHICAGO (AP) - The Pirates' Paul Maholm went a season-high eight
innings as Pittsburgh ended a 17-game road losing streak with a 2-1
win over the Chicago Cubs last night. The last time the Pirates won
on the road was May 25th in a 2-1 victory at Cincinnati. It's just
their third win in 21 games overall.

CHICAGO (AP) - Pirates second baseman Bobby Crosby left last
night's game with the Chicago Cubs with concussion-like symptoms
after colliding with right fielder Lastings Milledge. After the
play, Crosby was looked at by a team trainer, but stayed in the
game. Milledge appeared to be fine.

CINCINNATI (AP) - The Reds' Scott Rolen knocked in his 300th
home run against his former team to help give Cincinnati a 7-3 win
over the Phillies. Reds starter Johnny Cueto shut down
Philadelphia, giving up six hits and one run in eight innings. The
last time he faced the Phils in July of 2009, he retired just two
batters in what turned into a 22-1 drubbing.

CINCINNATI (AP) - Phillies third baseman Placido Polanco was out
of the lineup last night for the third straight game with a sore
left elbow. Polanco aggravated the injury on a dive Friday night
against the Blue Jays. He could return today.

DENVER (AP) - The Phillies and Colorado Rockies will make up
their rainout from last month on September 2nd at Coors Field. The
game was originally scheduled as the second game of a double-header
on May 12th. The Phillies will be returning home from a six-game
West Coast trip when they make a stopover in Denver.

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (AP) - Virginia Beach Police say Michael
Vick has been interviewed about a shooting that took place outside
a nightclub where he had celebrated his birthday. A police
spokesman says the Philadelphia Eagles' quarterback answered
questions at police headquarters yesterday afternoon. He says Vick
is not a suspect, and no arrest has been made.

PITTSBURGH (AP) - Steelers right tackle Willie Colon has injured
his right Achilles' tendon while working out at the team's practice
complex. If the tendon is torn, Colon is likely to require surgery
that would end his season.
