WPPA / T-102 SPORTS / Monday

PITTSBURGH (AP) - Chris Kunitz scored two goals, Tyler Kennedy
added three assists, and the Penguins moved to within three points
of the Eastern Conference lead by beating the Edmonton Oilers 5-1
yesterday. Marc-Andre Fleury made 28 saves one day after being
pulled during a loss to Montreal, Max Talbot and Jordan Staal each
had a goal and an assist, and Zbynek Michalek also scored for
Pittsburgh.

PITTSBURGH (AP) - Another early exit from the Big East
tournament didn't prevent Pittsburgh from getting a top seed in the
NCAA tournament. The Panthers were installed as the Number 1 seed
in the Southeast Region and will open Thursday in Washington
against the winner of tomorrow's play-in game between North
Carolina-Asheville and Arkansas-Little Rock.

STATE COLLEGE, Pa. (AP) - A decadelong NCAA tournament drought
is over for Penn State. Fueled by a run to the Big Ten tournament
title game, star guard Talor Battle and the Nittany Lions drew a 10
seed in the West region and a first-round game Thursday against 7
seed Temple.

VILLANOVA, Pa. (AP) - Villanova is the ninth seed in the East
region in the NCAA tournament. The Wildcats ended the season on a
five-game losing streak that knocked them out of the Top 25. They
will play eighth-seeded George Mason Friday in Cleveland.

LEWISBURG, Pa. (AP) - Watch out Connecticut: Bucknell hopes to
pull off another upset in the NCAA tournament. Back in the NCAAs
for the first time since 2006, the Patriot League champs drew a 14
seed in the West region and a first-round game Thursday in
Washington against the third-seeded Huskies.
LORETTO, Pa. (AP) - Brittany Lilley had 19 points and 10
assists, and Saint Francis earned another Northeast Conference
tournament title and trip to the NCAA tournament with a 72-57 win
yesterday over Monmouth. Samantha Leach, the NEC's player of the
year, also scored 19 for the Red Flash, who won their 11th title
since 1996.

BRADENTON, Fla. (AP) - Josh Beckett got roughed up in the fifth
inning as the Red Sox lost 9-4 to the Pirates on Sunday. Beckett
failed to record an out in Pittsburgh's six-run fifth. Ronny Cedeno
homered and Lyle Overbay had a two-run single in the fifth for
Pittsburgh.
