PITTSBURGH (AP) - The Pittsburgh Steelers are prepping for the
post-lockout transition period. New Steelers secondary coach
Carnell Lake says, "Now, the real work begins." The Steelers will
report to St. Vincent College in Latrobe by 3 p.m. Thursday and
will perform a conditioning drill. Their first official practice is
Friday.
PHILADELPHIA (AP) - Football is back. Philadelphia Eagles owner
Jeffrey Lurie is more than pleased with the news. Lurie says, "In
the end, both sides gave enough to get the deal done, and we can
all go back to work feeling good about what was accomplished."
Philadelphia will hold training camp, as planned, at Lehigh
University, with a start date still unknown.
BUFFALO, N.Y. (AP) - Though Paul Posluszny would prefer
re-signing with the Buffalo Bills, the linebacker says he will
consider offers from other teams now that the NFL labor dispute has
been settled and the league's free agency period is about to open.
Buffalo selected the Butler, Pennsylvania native in the 2007 draft
out of Penn State.
ATLANTA (AP) - James McDonald struck out a career-high nine in 5
1-3 scoreless innings and the Pittsburgh Pirates beat the Atlanta
Braves 3-1 last night to keep pace in the tight NL Central race.
The Pirates are tied with St. Louis for first place in the
division, a half-game ahead of Milwaukee, which was off.
PITTSBURGH (AP) - The Pirates placed outfielder Alex Presley on
the 15-day disabled list yesterday with a left hand contusion. The
move is retroactive to July 23rd. Infielder Pedro Alvarez was
recalled from Indianapolis to take Presley's spot on the roster.
PHILADELPHIA (AP) - The San Diego Padres beat the Philadelphia
Phillies for the first time in more than a year, 5-4 yesterday.
Aaron Harang outpitched Cliff Lee and Chris Denorfia stole home to
help with the win.
