PHILADELPHIA (AP) - Comcast-Spectacor says it's reached a deal
to sell the Philadelphia 76ers to a group led by leveraged buyout
specialist Joshua Harris, a co-founder of Apollo Global Management
LLC. Comcast-Spectacor says the acquisition doesn't include the
Wells Fargo Center or the NHL Flyers.
PHILADELPHIA (AP) - As expected, the Philadelphia Phillies are
leading the majors in wins at the All-Star break. This is thanks,
in part, to excellent pitching. Roy Halladay, Cliff Lee and Cole
Hamels have all helped the Phils overcome a slew of injuries and a
mediocre offense.
NEW YORK (AP) - Tom Brady, Peyton Manning and Drew Brees say
"it is time" for NFL owners and players to wrap up negotiations
on a deal to end the league's lockout. In a statement released to
The Associated Press yesterday, the quarterbacks say they think
"the overall proposal made by the players is fair for both sides
and it is time to get this deal done."
NEW YORK (AP) - Heavily fined Pittsburgh Steelers linebacker
James Harrison calls NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell a "crook" and
a "devil," among other insults, in a magazine article. The 2008
AP Defensive Player of the Year hasn't been shy about ripping the
league after he was docked $100,000 for illegal hits last season.
In the August issue of Men's Journal, his rants against Goodell
reach another level.
TORONTO (AP) - Phil (Mr. Wonderful) Davis has withdrawn because
of an injury from his main event fight with former
light-heavyweight champion Rashad Evans at UFC 133. UFC president
Dana White confirmed the injury to The Canadian Press. Davis had
been slated to face Evans on August 6th in Philadelphia.
