PHILADELPHIA (AP) - Raul Ibanez hit a solo homer with one out in
the bottom of the 10th inning to lift the Philadelphia Phillies to
a 3-2 victory over the Atlanta Braves last night. Roy Halladay
pitched seven strong innings, Carlos Ruiz hit a tying homer and the
Phillies increased their lead to 3 1/2 games over the Braves in the
NL East.
PHILADELPHIA (AP) - The Philadelphia Phillies have placed
All-Star center fielder Shane Victorino on the 15-day disabled list

series against second-place Atlanta.
PITTSBURGH (AP) - Mike McKenry's first major league home run
lifted Pittsburgh to a 7-4 victory over the Chicago Cubs last night
and assured the Pirates of a winning record at the All-Star break
for the first time in 19 years. The rookie catcher's three-run shot
deep into the left-field bleachers came off Cubs closer Carlos
Marmol in the eighth inning.
STATE COLLEGE, Pa. (AP) - Penn State receiver Curtis Drake hopes

CHICAGO (AP) - The United States will play Mexico in a soccer
exhibition at Philadelphia's Lincoln Financial Field on Aug. 10.

against the Americans to win the CONCACAF Gold Cup final 4-2 last
month.
HOUSTON (AP) - Yahoo! Sports is reporting that Yao Ming is
retiring from basketball.
The 7-foot-6 Houston Rockets center, plagued by lower-body

office that his playing career is over, the website reported.
The Rockets have no comment on the report because of the
lockout, and the NBA has not received official retirement paperwork
from Yao.
