MILWAUKEE (AP) - Nyjer Morgan's game-ending sacrifice fly in the
10th inning lifted the Milwaukee Brewers a 2-1 win over the
struggling Pittsburgh Pirates and a series sweep. The Brewers have
now won all eight games against the Pirates this season and 12
straight over the last two years at Miller Park.
PHILADELPHIA (AP) - The game between the Washington Nationals
and Philadelphia Phillies scheduled for yesterday was postponed
because of rain. It will be made up on September 20th as part of a
split doubleheader. The game was called more than two hours before
it was supposed to begin.
LATROBE, Pa (AP) - New Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver
Jerricho Cotchery says he's ready to win now. The seven-year NFL
veteran signed with the defending AFC champions last week and
participated in his first practice with the Steelers yesterday.
Cotchery says he believed Pittsburgh was the best fit for him after
he asked the New York Jets to release him.
BETHLEHEM, Pa. (AP) - The Philadelphia Eagles defense continues
to impress. Cornerback Nnamdi Asomugha says it's because of the
confidence and the experience the players have on defense. He says,
"When we're playing at our best, we'll be tough to beat on
defense."
SHENZHEN, China (AP) - Skylar Diggins, Nnemkadi Ogwumike and
Devereaux Peters scored 14 points each to lead a balanced U.S.
offense, and the Americans routed Slovakia 114-63 yesterday in the
World University games. The U.S. will close preliminary play
Wednesday against Britain.
SOUTH WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. (AP) - It's been a decade since Danny
Almonte and his New York team were disqualified from the Little
League World Series, but the repercussions of the controversy still
resonate. The left-hander had his World Series perfect game
stricken after an investigation revealed he was 14 and a birth
certificate showing he was 12 was false. This year's World Series
starts Thursday.
