John Mayberry Jr.hit a two-run homer for his second clout in as many games. VanceWorley won his sixth straight decision as the Phillies ran theirwinning streak to a season-best eight games.
SAN FRANCISCO (AP) - Benches cleared in the top of the sixthinning during last night's game between the Phillies and Giantsafter San Francisco reliever Ramon Ramirez hit Shane Victorino inthe back with a pitch. Victorino began walking toward the mound andGiants catcher Eli Whiteside stepped in front of him. PlacidoPolanco raced in from second base and was tackled by Whiteside, whoalong with Victorino was ejected. Ramirez also was tossed.
PITTSBURGH (AP) - Chase Headley's grand slam highlighted SanDiego's first four-homer game of the season, and the Padres cruisedpast Pittsburgh 15-5 last night, handing the Pirates their eighthstraight loss. Headley's shot to right-center capped a six-runfourth inning. Pittsburgh's Jeff Karstensgave up nine earned runsin 3 1-3 innings.
BETHLEHEM, Pa. (AP) - Eagles defensive tackle Mike Patterson isback at the team's facility two days after suffering a seizure atpractice. Patterson arrived at training camp this afternoon andspoke to coach Andy Reid for a few minutes before the afternoonsession.
PITTSBURGH (AP) - The Steelers have signed linebacker LaMarrWoodley to a six-year, $61.5 million contract that runs through the2016 season. The new contract replaces a one-year, $10 million dealagreed to in February when the Steelers placed the franchise playertag on Woodley.
PITTSBURGH (AP) - Penn State quarterback Kevin Newsome says hewill transfer from the school and hopes to find a new school wherehe can play immediately. Newsome tells the PittsburghTribune-Review he plans to transfer as soon as possible. He hasn'tsaid what schools he's considering.
WOODWARD, Pa. (AP) - A central Pennsylvania camp integral in thegrowth of action sports has been sold to an investment group thatowns nine ski resorts across the country. The Centre Daily Timesreports Friday that Powdr Corporation, which is based in Park City,Utah, recently purchased Camp Woodward in rural Centre County.
