NEW YORK (AP) — The Pittsburgh Penguins beat the New York Rangers 4-1 last night. Richard Park scored the go-ahead goal 2:23 into the third period, Evgeni Malkin padded the lead with two and Marc-Andre Fleury made 30 saves to help with the win.

PHILADELPHIA (AP) — The New York Islanders snapped a 13-game losing streak in Philadelphia with a 4-1 victory over the Flyers last night. Evgeni Nabokov made 40 saves. Josh Bailey, Matt Moulson, Mark Streit and Michael Grabner scored to help the Islanders also break an eight-game losing streak against Philadelphia.

BELLEFONTE, Pa. (AP) — An attorney for a former Penn State football assistant coach accused of molesting boys has filed a request for information about the witnesses they could expect to see at trial. Jerry Sandusky's defense attorney has filed a request. The filing is standard procedure. It requires the state attorney general's office to provide details such as the names and ages of people who say they're victims and the names and addresses of witnesses.

STATE COLLEGE, Pa. (AP) — Penn State trustees say Joe Paterno was ousted in part because he didn't meet a moral obligation to do more to alert authorities about a child sex abuse allegation against a retired assistant coach. Trustees also cite statements from Paterno in the days and hours leading to his dismissal they felt challenged the Board of Trustees' authority at a time of crisis.

STATE COLLEGE, Pa. (AP) — Tim Frazier hit a floater in the lane with 8 seconds left and Jermaine Marshall blocked Sam Maniscalco's layup at the buzzer to give Penn State a 54-52 upset of Number 22 Illinois last night. Frazier finished with 12 points and nine assists for the Nittany Lions, who ended a three-game losing skid.

CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (AP) — Maggie Lucas scored 19 points and Number 22 Penn State beat Illinois 71-65 last night for its third straight win. Illinois led for most of the first half, but Penn State used a series of runs to keep the Illini winless in conference play.

HACKENSACK, N.J. (AP) — Velton Jones scored 22 points to lead Robert Morris over Fairleigh Dickinson 67-55 last night, securing a sweep in the season series against the Knights. Lucky Jones added 16 points and Lijah Thompson had 14 for the Colonials, who also beat Fairleigh Dickinson on December 1st.

PHILADELPHIA (AP) — Retired players accuse the NFL of conspiring to hide evidence that concussions could lead to dementia and brain disease in the latest lawsuit filed over the issue. The fraud and negligence lawsuit filed yesterday in Philadelphia accuses the league of publishing nonscientific papers written by biased members of its medical committee. The plaintiffs include former Philadelphia Eagles Ron Solt and Rich Miano.

NEW YORK (AP) — Johnny Weir says he's returning to competitive figure skating in hopes of competing at the Sochi Olympics in 2014. The three-time U.S. champion says he still has the drive to compete and that this "isn't a publicity stunt."
