STATE COLLEGE, Pa. (AP) — Police say tens of thousands of mourners showed up at a Penn State campus worship hall to pay their respects to former football coach Joe Paterno. Two of Paterno's children shook hands with people while the rest of his family sat off to the side watching. Paterno died on Sunday, about two months after he was diagnosed with lung cancer. The public viewing continues today. A public memorial service is set for tomorrow.

STATE COLLEGE, Pa. (AP) — More than 10,000 free tickets for a public memorial service for Penn State football coach Joe Paterno were snapped up in seven minutes. The service will be held tomorrow at the school's basketball arena. It will also be broadcast live on cable TV's Big Ten Network and streamed live on the channel's companion website and the Penn State athletics site.

STATE COLLEGE, Pa. (AP) — Penn State faculty members have rejected a vote of no-confidence in the university's board of trustees. The symbolic measure failed to gain enough support at a Faculty Senate meeting yesterday on campus in State College.

SUNRISE, Fla. (AP) — Claude Giroux scored the only goal in a shootout and the Philadelphia Flyers beat the Florida Panthers 3-2 last night. Giroux beat Scott Clemmensen on the stick side to give the Flyers their first shootout victory in four tries this season.

ST. LOUIS (AP) — Chris Kunitz scored the deciding goal on a backhander in the fourth round of a shootout and the Pittsburgh Penguins took a seven-game winning streak into the All-Star break with a 3-2 victory over the St. Louis Blues last night. Patrik Berglund ended a seven-game point drought with a pair of goals and tied it on a penalty shot early in the third period for the Blues.

PHILADELPHIA (AP) — The 2012 MLS All-Star game has been awarded to the Philadelphia Union. The club will host the annual event July 25th at PPL Park. The opponent has yet to be determined, though MLS Commissioner Don Garber says an answer should come in the next two months.

PITTSBURGH (AP) — Former Pittsburgh Steelers defensive end John Banaszak will take over head coaching duties at Robert Morris at the end of the 2013 season. The school has announced Banaszak will eventually replace Joe Walton, who will step down after spending two decades building the program from scratch.
