WPPA / T-102 SPORTS / Tuesday

EW YORK (AP) - Ryan Howard homered twice and drove in five
runs, Cliff Lee won his eighth straight start and the Philadelphia
Phillies beat the New York Mets 6-2 yesterday. Lee did not allow an
earned run in seven innings, lowering his ERA with the Phillies to
0.68. The Mets are at Florida tonight while the Phillies start a
series in Pittsburgh.

SOUTH WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. (AP) - In the Little League World
Series, the team from Staten Island advanced with a 8-3 win last
night over Urbandale, Iowa. Michael Rapaglia struck out seven over
four-plus innings and Vincent Quinn slugged a three-run homer.
Staten Island will play either California or Texas in the U.S.
semifinals tomorrow.

PHILADELPHIA (AP) - Michael Vick's teammates say the quarterback
looks ready to play when the Philadelphia Eagles host Jacksonville
on Thursday. Coach Andy Reid will probably make a decision today on
whether Vick will make his Eagles debut in at home game against the
Jaguars. Vick is eligible to play in the next two preseason games.

PHILADELPHIA (AP) - Philadelphia Eagles offensive lineman Shawn
Andrews says his injured back is improving and he expects to play
in the team's season opener. Andrews, who underwent back surgery
last season, hasn't practiced since the first day of training camp
when he re-injured his back.

PHILADELPHIA (AP) - A federal appeals court in Philadelphia has
ruled that Delaware's sports betting plan violates the law. The
court has ruled that the state's proposed sports betting lottery,
which would include single-game bets, violates a 1992 federal ban
on sports wagering.
