WPPA / T-102 SPORTS / Thursday

LOS ANGELES (AP) - The Los Angeles Dodgers' nine-game winning
streak is history. The San Diego Padres erupted with five runs in
the fourth inning and beat the Dodgers 10-5 last night as Adrian
Gonzalez homered and drove in a career-high six runs.

LOS ANGELES (AP) - The Los Angeles Lakers are halfway toward
their goal of returning to the NBA Finals for the third straight
year. The defending NBA champion Lakers dispatched Phoenix 124-112
for a 2-0 series lead last night with Pau Gasol leading the scoring
parade with 29 and Kobe Bryant having a great all-around floor game
with 21 points, 13 assists and five rebounds.

WASHINGTON (AP) - Something happened last night on the baseball
diamond in Washington that hasn't happened in 55 years. The New
York Mets' Angel Pagan (pah-GAHN') hit an inside-the-park home run
and started a first triple play, the first player since
Philadelphia's Ted Kazsanski to take part in both feats in the same
game.

ST. LOUIS (AP) - Two-time NL All-Star shortstop Hanley Ramirez
returned to the Marlins' lineup with three hits and in Florida's
5-1 victory over the St. Louis Cardinals. Ramirez was yanked from
Monday's game for loafing and benched Tuesday after criticizing
manager Fredi Gonzalez and teammates, but apologized individually
to the Marlins before the game.

MONTREAL (AP) - Following a travel day, Philadelphia is in
Montreal after winning both opening games of their NHL Eastern
Conference final in the City of Brotherly Love. Flyers goalie
Michael Leighton (LAY'-tuhn) has posted two straight shutouts, 6-0
and 3-0, and has gone 165 minutes, 50 seconds without allowing a
goal in the playoffs.
