SALT LAKE CITY (AP) - Andrei Kirilenko scored seven of his 16
points in overtime to lead the short-handed Utah Jazz to a 112-107
victory against Philadelphia last night. The Sixers haven't won in
Utah since 2005, losing 10 of the last 12 overall against the Jazz.
PHILADELPHIA (AP) - Flyers defenseman Chris Pronger needs
surgery on his right hand and is expected to miss three to four
weeks. Pronger will have the surgery Thursday. He had a small
fracture in the hand discovered Sunday. Pronger sat out the last
two games with the injury. He has four goals and 25 points in 50
games.
PITTSBURGH (AP) - Sidney Crosby returned to the ice yesterday
for the first time since missing 29 games with a concussion. Crosby
practiced in full gear for about 15 minutes at the Consol Energy
Center. It's not known when Crosby will return to game action.
KISSIMMEE, Fla. (AP) - Phillies closer Brad Lidge has a sore arm
that will keep him off the mound for a few days. Lidge was supposed
to pitch yesterday against the Houston Astros, but did not make the
trip to Kissimmee because of tendinitis in his right biceps.
KISSIMMEE, Fla. (AP) -Astros right-hander Nelson Figueroa was
less than pleased. Phillies lefty Cole Hamels was even more
disappointed. The two starters combined to give up 10 runs
yesterday in Philadelphia's 7-6 victory as each pitcher used the
game to work on adjustments.
SARASOTA, Fla. (AP) - The Orioles beat the Pirates 8-2 yesterday
in spring training action. Pittsburgh outfielder Steve Pearce went
2 for 3 on the day and scored both runs for the Bucs.
PHILADELPHIA (AP) - Temple's Fran Dunphy has the longest losing
streak of any coach in the history of the NCAA tournament. Dunphy
has lost 11 straight tournament games dating back to his time
coaching Penn. He is 0-3 with the Owls. Dunphy's lone win with the
Quakers came in 1994. He'll try to break the streak Thursday when
the Owls open NCAA tournament play against Penn State.
COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) - Michael Vick has landed another
endorsement deal. The Eagles' star quarterback will be pitching a
performance wristband. He signed with Lutte Licensing Group, maker
and distributor of Core Synergy, a titanium-infused silicone
wristband.
RICHMOND, Va. (AP) - A co-defendant in the Michael Vick
dogfighting case is due in court in Virginia for allegedly
violating his probation. Quanis Phillips goes before U.S. District
Court Judge Henry Hudson this afternoon. Phillips was shot in the
leg after a birthday party for Vick at a Virginia Beach nightclub
in June. A probation officer says in court papers that Phillips
lied when he denied speaking with the Philadelphia Eagles
quarterback that night.
