WPPA / T-102 SPORTS / Tuesday

ST. LOUIS (AP) - Charlie Morton won his first road game since
the end of 2009 in a 47-degree chill and the Pirates stunned Kyle
Lohse with a four-run sixth inning in a 4-3 victory last night.
Lohse issued his first walk all year, then allowed Neil Walker's
two-run double and Andrew McCutchen's second homer to put
Pittsburgh ahead 4-1.

PITTSBURGH (AP) - The Penguins signed free-agent forward Brian
Gibbons to a two-year, entry-level contract yesterday. In his final
season at Boston College, Gibbons had 18 goals and 51 points in 39
games. He was an assistant captain for the Eagles, and made the
All-Hockey East second team.

MOUNT VERNON, Wash. (AP) - Police are searching for suspects who
burglarized the Mount Vernon, Washington, home of Phillies pitcher
Kyle Kendrick and took his World Series ring. Police say the
thieves also took other valuable items. He says Kendrick and his
family were not home at the time of the burglary, which occurred in
late March.

STATE COLLEGE, Pa. (AP) - During an injury-filled spring at Penn
State, it's easy to overlook the linebacker running around without
the familiar black brace on his right knee. Michael Mauti has moved
to middle linebacker this spring. Another likely starter at
linebacker, Nathan Stupar, has been limited by a sore left
hamstring.

HARRISBURG, Pa. (AP) - Players from Philadelphia-area schools
have swept player-of-the-year honors in all four PIAA
classifications more than a week after Philly teams swept all four
boys state basketball titles. Overall, Philadelphia-area players
claimed 35 of 80 spots available on the all-state basketball team
as selected by a panel of Pennsylvania sports writers.

PITTSBURGH (AP) - Towson University has hired Pittsburgh
assistant Pat Skerry as its new coach. Skerry, who will be
introduced in a campus press conference on Tuesday, replaces Pat
Kennedy, who resigned last month after seven seasons. The Tigers
went 0-18 in the Colonial Athletic Association this year.
