PHILADELPHIA (AP) - Chris Kunitz's shootout goal lifted the
Penguins to a 2-1 win over the Flyers last night. Philadelphia's
Mike Richards and Pittsburgh's Tyler Kennedy scored goals in
regulation. The Flyers played in their fourth straight shootout and
reached overtime for the fifth time in six games.
CLEARWATER, Fla. (AP) - Phillies right-hander Roy Oswalt was in
good spirits yesterday, the day after he took a line drive under
the right ear while pitching against the Rays. Oswalt says that he
has a small lump on the back of his head, but doesn't have a
headache.
CLEARWATER, Fla. (AP) - Cole Hamels had another shaky outing,
giving up six runs in the Philadelphia Phillies' 7-3 loss to the
Twins. Hamels has struggled in the latter half of spring training.
After allowing a total of three earned runs in his first three
starts, he has given up 16 runs in his last three.
SARASOTA, Fla. (AP) - Pittsburgh starter Ross Ohlendorf yielded
three homers in another ineffective outing, and the Orioles beat
the Pirates 11-7 last night. Ohlendorf (0-4) gave up six runs and
nine hits in 4 2-3 innings. Neil Walker hit two solo homers and
Lyle Overbay had a two-run shot for the Pirates. Josh Rodriguez
also homered for Pittsburgh.
PHILADELPHIA (AP) -Eagles Hall of Famer Chuck Bednarik is in
serious condition in a hospital near his Pennsylvania home. A
nursing supervisor at St. Luke's Hospital in Bethlehem would not
provide additional information on the condition of the 85-year-old
former star.
STATE COLLEGE, Pa. (AP) - Penn State will meet Southeastern
Conference power Kentucky in an early-season tournament in 2011-12.
They'll play in the Basketball Hall of Fame Tip-Off tourney in
November in Uncasville, Connecticut. It's part of a four-game,
early-season set for Penn State in the tournament that starts with
two contests in Happy Valley - November 14th against Radford and
November 16th against Long Island.
PHILADELPHIA (AP) - La Salle sophomore center Aaric Murray will
transfer at the end of the spring semester. Murray intends to
complete his spring classes. He averaged 15.2 points and 7.7
rebounds per game this season.
