WPPA / T-102 SPORTS / Wednesday

OTTAWA (AP) - Tyler Kennedy and Jordan Staal each had a goal and
an assist and the Penguins beat the Senators 5-1 last night. Chris
Kunitz had three assists for the Penguins, who also got goals from
Ben Lovejoy, Matt Cooke and Zbynek Michalek. Paul Martin and Dustin
Jeffrey had two assists each as the Penguins.

SUNRISE, Fla. (AP) - Jeff Carter scored two goals in the second
period and the Philadelphia Flyers beat the Florida Panthers 3-2
last night. Scott Hartnell also scored for the Flyers and Brian
Boucher made 20 saves. The win was just the Flyers' third in eight
games but they maintained a one-point lead over Washington in the
Eastern Division.

DUNEDIN, Fla. (AP) -Phillies third baseman Placido Polanco has
re-injured his surgically repaired left elbow. Polanco
hyperextended his elbow on a swing in his only plate appearance
against the Blue Jays yesterday. Polanco says it's nothing serious,
but he and the team are playing it safe because he had surgery on
the elbow in November to remove scar tissue and bone spurs.

DUNEDIN, Fla. (AP) - Joe Blanton settled down after a shaky
start, Raul Ibanez hit a two-run homer and the Philadelphia
Phillies beat the Toronto Blue Jays 13-7 on Tuesday. After
squandering a four-run lead, Philadelphia rallied for five runs in
the eighth - three on Wilson Valdez's double. The teams combined
for 30 hits.

JUPITER, Fla. (AP) - Former Pirate Ian Snell has decided to
retire at age 29 after the St. Louis Cardinals optioned him to the
minors. Snell is 38-53 with a 4.80 ERA in seven full seasons. He
had a career-high 14 victories in 2006 and nine wins with a 3.76
ERA in 2007, and was the Pirates' opening-day starter in 2009.

WASHINGTON (AP) - For the third straight year, President Barack
Obama has filled out an NCAA tournament bracket for ESPN. His
predictions for who will make it to the Final Four will be closely
guarded until the network reveals them today. Obama told Pittsburgh
TV station KDKA that he thinks the University of Pittsburgh will
make it to the Elite Eight. He says it's a good looking team with a
chance to go deep.
