WPPA / T-102 SPORTS / Wednesday

PHILADELPHIA (AP) - Alexander Semin's shootout goal lifted the
Capitals to a 5-4 victory over the Flyers and pulled them within
one point of first place in the Eastern Conference. The Capitals
took an early three-goal lead and seemed on their way to tying
Philadelphia for the top spot. But the Flyers scored four straight
and earned a point by going into overtime.

PHILADELPHIA (AP) - Flyers left wing Jody Shelley is slated to
undergo surgery tomorrow to repair a fractured orbital bone on the
left side of his face. Shelley was hit by a puck below the left eye
during practice Monday. The Flyers say he'll be out for four weeks.

PITTSBURGH (AP) - Penguins forward Matt Cooke says he needs to
change the way he plays after the NHL levied its stiffest
suspension of the season against him. The veteran left wing told
the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review that he "made a mistake" and that
he takes responsibility for elbowing defenseman Ryan McDonagh of
the Rangers in the head Sunday. Cooke has been suspended for the
remainder of the regular season and the first round of the
playoffs.

CLEARWATER, Fla. (AP) - Luis Castillo has reported to Phillies'
spring training camp, four days after the second baseman was
released by the New York Mets. The 35-year-old Castillo signed a
minor league deal with the Phillies on Monday and he could earn
regular playing time with Chase Utley out because of a right knee
injury.

DUNEDIN, Fla. (AP) - Cliff Lee tossed six effective innings,
Raul Ibanez hit a three-run homer and the Phillies beat the Toronto
Blue Jays 5-4 yesterday. Lee gave up two runs and four hits,
including Rajai Davis' leadoff triple in the first inning and Juan
Rivera's homer in the third. Toronto touched up Danys Baez for two
runs in the ninth before Jonathan Diaz ended the game with a
double-play grounder.

PHILADELPHIA (AP) - Robin Roberts' Hall of Fame induction ring
and jerseys worn by Roy Halladay and Charlie Manuel are among the
items being auctioned off by the Phillies next month. The Phillies
say a portion of the proceeds from the April 12th auction will go
to Phillies charities.
