WPPA / T-102 SPORTS / Monday

PITTSBURGH (AP) - Marian Gaborik and Ryan Callahan scored power
play goals 11 seconds apart as part of a four-goal third period and
the Rangers extended their winning streak to a season-high four
games with a 5-2 win over the Penguins yesterday. Jordan Staal and
Chris Kuntz scored for Pittsburgh.

CLEARWATER, Fla. (AP) - Alex Rodriguez and Mark Teixeira hit
back-to-back home runs in the fourth inning, leading the Yankees to
an 8-1 win over the Phillies yesterday. CC Sabathia held the
Phillies to one run, Jimmy Rollins' first homer, in 6 2-3 innings.

KISSIMMEE, Fla. (AP) - Charlie Morton pitched six shutout
innings and Ronny Cedeno hit a two-run home run to lead the Pirates
to a 3-1 victory over an Astros split-squad yesterday. Morton gave
up four singles and struck out five. He was 2-12 with a 7.57 ERA
last season.

COLLEGE PARK, Md. (AP) - Maryland scored the game's first 13
points, led by 23 at halftime and cruised to a 70-48 victory over
St. Francis yesterday in the opening round of the NCAA women's
tournament. Brittany Lilley and Nickia Gibbs each scored 10 points
for 13th-seed St. Francis, the Northeast Conference champions.

SALT LAKE CITY (AP) - The Temple Owls meet Notre Dame today in
the second round of the NCAA women's tournament. The 10th-seeded
Owls are looking for a breakthrough win against an established
power in the Fighting Irish.

STATE COLLEGE, Pa. (AP) - Penn State is the lower seed in
tonight's matchup with third-seeded DePaul in the second round of
the NCAA women's tournament, but the sixth-seeded Lady Lions will
be on their home court in Happy Valley. The Lions will wear their
blue road uniforms as the lower seed, though the Jordan Center
crowd will most assuredly be on Penn State's side.
