WPPA / T-102 SPORTS / Wednesday

PITTSBURGH (AP) - Ville Leino scored twice in the third period,
and the Flyers rallied to beat the Penguins 5-2 last night and stay
atop the Eastern Conference. The Flyers also got goals from Jeff
Carter, Scott Hartnell, and Claude Giroux and 25 saves by Sergei
Bobrovsky. Philadelphia won in regulation for the second time in
seven games.

PHILADELPHIA (AP) - Ben Francisco hit a solo homer to lead the
Phillies to an 8-5 victory over the Pirates in an exhibition game
in Philadelphia last night. Francisco tied Ryan Howard for the team
lead with five homers. He finished 1 for 4, dropping his average to
.377.

PHILADELPHIA (AP) - Phillies closer Brad Lidge is expected to
miss three to six weeks while recovering from shoulder trouble.
Philadelphia general manager Ruben Amaro Jr. said Tuesday that the
right-handed reliever will not need surgery to fix the problem.

PHILADELPHIA (AP) - Maya Moore scored 28 points, including the
3,000th of her career, to lead top-seed Connecticut to a 75-40 win
over Duke in Philadelphia last night and another trip to the Final
Four. UConn is now two victories away from winning its third
straight national championship.

PITTSBURGH (AP) - Pittsburgh junior Ashton Gibbs will declare
for the NBA draft, but he will not hire an agent during the
process. Gibbs has until April 24th to formally apply and submit
his NBA paperwork. As long as he doesn't hire an agent, he would
have until May 8th to withdraw his name without losing his
eligibility with the Panthers.
