WPPA / T-102 SPORTS / Friday
PHILADELPHIA (AP) - The Phillies went into extra innings last
night, but lost 5-3 the 10th to the Los Angles Dodgers. The
Phillies dropped two out of three against a Dodgers team playing
without suspended star outfielder Manny Ramirez. Philadelphia
travels to Washington for a weekend series against the Nationals.
PITTSBURGH (AP) - The Pittsburgh Pirates couldn't quite pull off
the sweep. Colby Rasmus' two-run homer in the second inning gave
St. Louis' the lift it needed in a 5-1 victory over the Pirates
last night. Pittsburgh hosts Colorado in a weekend series beginning
tonight.
PITTSBURGH (AP) - Pittsburgh Penguins players know this about
teammate Sidney Crosby: Give Crosby a big stage and, no matter who
else is starring, there will be few questions by the end who is
carrying the show. Crosby scored two goals in the deciding victory
over the Washington Capitals. Next up: the Carolina Hurricanes.
PHILADELPHIA (AP) - The Philadelphia 76ers will interview former
NBA coach Eddie Jordan for their head coaching vacancy today. He
was fired by the Washington Wizards in November and interviewed
with the Sacramento Kings this week. Interim coach Tony DiLeo
stepped down and returned to his job as a vice president and
assistant general manager.
BOSTON (AP) - Boston College linebacker Mark Herzlich has
cancer. The Wayne, Pa., resident says he was diagnosed earlier this
week with Ewing's Sarcoma after feeling pain in his leg. He will
undergo more tests in Pennsylvania. Ewing's Sarcoma is a malignant
tumor often found in bone or soft tissue.
