DETROIT (AP) - Pittsburgh star Evgeni Malkin won't be suspended
for Game 3 of the Stanley Cup finals. Malkin drewing an instigator
penalty in the Penguins' 3-1 loss to Detroit. But NHL director of
hockey operations Colin Campbell said none of the criteria in the
rule applied and the suspension was rescinded.
DETROIT (AP) - Television ratings for Game 1 of the Red
Wings-Penguins Stanley Cup finals rematch were down from last
year's levels. The NBC telecast drew a 2.6 rating and a 5 share.
That's compared with a four-game NBC average of a 3.2 rating and a
6 share one year ago.
PHILADELPHIA (AP) - The Philadelphia Phillies won their third
straight game, 4-2 over the bumbling Washington Nationals
yesterday. Jamie Moyer went six strong innings to win his 250th
career game. Philadelphia is at San Diego at 10:05 p.m. Eastern.
PITTSBURGH (AP) - Mike Hampton continued his mastery over the
Pittsburgh Pirates, allowing only one run in seven innings in
Houston's 2-1 win. Hampton became only the second pitcher to win
eight in a row against the Pirates since 1954. Pittsburgh hosts the
N.Y. Mets this evening at 7:05.
