PHILADELPHIA (AP) - Phillies pitcher Brett Myers could miss his
next start - and potentially more - with an injured right hip.
General Manager Ruben Amaro Jr. says an MRI has revealed fraying
and possible tearing in the labrum of the hip joint. Myers told The
Philadelphia Inquirer yesterday that doctors said he likely will
need surgery.
PITTSBURGH (AP) - The Pittsburgh Penguins are the first team
since the 1983 Edmonton Oilers to return to the Stanley Cup finals
a season after losing in them. The Pens are eager to find out if
they're ready to make a breakthrough, especially since they're
playing the returning champion Detroit Red Wings, who eliminated
them last season. The finals start tomorrow night in Detroit.
DETROIT (AP) - The Detroit Red Wings expect star defenseman
Nicklas Lidstrom to play in Game 1 of the Stanley Cup finals
against the Pittsburgh Penguins. Red Wings general manager Ken
Holland said yesterday he's encouraged by how Lidstrom's lower-body
injury has recovered after he was forced to miss two games.
PHILADELPHIA (AP) - Philadelphia Flyers forward Simon Gagne has
had surgery to remove a bone spur and adhesions that built up in
his right hip. Gagne had the surgery yesterday and was expected to
recover in four to six weeks. He had 34 goals and 74 points in 79
games for the Flyers this season.
PHILADELPHIA (AP) - Ric Flair is getting back in the wrestling
ring. The 60-year-old former World Wrestling Entertainment champ is
working for Ring of Honor. The Philadelphia-based wrestling company
prides itself on putting more emphasis on the sport of wrestling
and hopes the "Nature Boy" can give the next generation of stars
a brand-name boost.
