WASHINGTON (AP) - The Philadelphia Phillies completed a
four-game series sweep of the Washington Nationals yesterday. The
Phillies won, 8-6. It capped a series that included 55 runs and 42
walks. The Phillies are off until tomorrow when they open a series
in Cincinnati.
PITTSBURGH (AP) - Nate McLouth had three of his four RBIs during
a 10-run seventh inning, and the Pittsburgh Pirates came from
behind to defeat the Colorado Rockies, 11-4, yesterday. It was the
second straight win for the Pirates. Pittsburgh begins a road
series in Washington tonight.
CANONSBURG, Pa. (AP) - Pittsburgh Penguins defenseman Sergei
Gonchar has returned to practice and hopes to play in the Eastern
Conference finals opener tonight against the Carolina Hurricanes.
Gonchar missed two games after injuring his right knee while being
hit by Alex Ovechkin. He unexpectedly returned for Game 7 for
reduced playing time.
PITTSBURGH (AP) - Left-hander Tom Gorzelanny was recalled by
Pittsburgh from Triple-A Indianapolis yesterday. He takes the
roster spot of Tyler Yates. The right-handeder was placed on the
15-day disabled list retroactive to Saturday with an inflamed
elbow.
