PHILADELPHIA (AP) - Making his first start of the season, Burke
Badenhop allowed one run and five hits as the Florida Marlins beat
the Philadelphia Phillies 6-2. Brett Myers gave up five runs and
seven hits in 5 2-3 innings for the Phillies before leaving with
right hip inflammation.
CHICAGO (AP) - Carlos Zambrano went on a tirade after being
ejected, and was gone when Reed Johnson hit a tiebreaking home run
that sent the Chicago Cubs over the Pittsburgh Pirates 5-2. The
Cubs ace was tossed after Nyjer Morgan scored the tying run,
beating Geovany Soto's throw to Zambrano.
DETROIT (AP) - The Detroit Red Wings say they'll start selling
single-game tickets for the Stanley Cup finals today. The Red Wings
beat the Chicago Blackhawks 2-1 in overtime Wednesday for a 4-1
victory in the Western Conference finals. Detroit faces the
Pittsburgh Penguins for the NHL title.
PHILADELPHIA (AP) - The Philadelphia 76ers have interviewed
Dallas assistant Dwane Casey for a second time about their coaching
position. A person familiar with the decision confirmed the
interview on condition of anonymity because an announcement has not
been made.
PHILADELPHIA (AP) - Jack Ikegwuonu (eye-kee-GWAH'-noo) was one
of the last Eagles players to leave the practice field Wednesday.
When you have been off the field as long as he has, every minute
matters. The Eagles drafted him knowing he wouldn't play last
season as he recovered from a torn ACL.
FOGELSVILLE, Pa. (AP) - Joe Paterno says he'd like to see either
Rutgers, Pittsburgh or Syracuse join the Big Ten. The legendary
Penn State coach also knows which school he wants to keep out:
Notre Dame. Paterno said the Big Ten should add an Eastern team.
