CINCINNATI (AP) - Ryan Doumit hit a solo homer with two outs in the top of the ninth inning gave the Pirates a 2-1 win over the Cincinnati Reds last night. Octavio Dotel pitched the ninth for his 10th save in 12 tries - he's 7 for 7 in May.

CINCINNATI (AP) - Former first-round pick Neil Walker is getting a second chance to play in the majors with the Pittsburgh Pirates. The Pirates have called up Walker from Triple-A Indianapolis and put first baseman Steve Pearce on the 15-day disabled list with a sprained right ankle.

NEW YORK (AP) - The Phillies' slide has continued with an 8-0 rout at the hands of the Mets. Jason Bay and Jeff Francoeur each drove in a pair of runs in the opener of a three-game series
between the NL East rivals in New York. Mets knuckleballer R.A. Dickey got his first major league win since April of last year.

IRVING, Texas (AP) - NFL commissioner Roger Goodell says he expects to decide within a week when Ben Roethlisberger can rejoin the Pittsburgh Steelers for offseason workouts. Goodell says he will soon review the behavioral evaluation he ordered as part of his six-game suspension of the Steelers quarterback under the league's conduct policy.

PITTSBURGH (AP) - The attorney for a Pittsburgh suburb says it will be "months as opposed to weeks" before he recommends whether a police officer should be disciplined for being with Ben Roethlisberger the night he was accused of sexual assault. Officials are investigating the role, if any, of Coraopolis officer Anthony Barravecchio in the alleged incident.

PITTSBURGH (AP) - The competition to temporarily replace Ben Roethlisberger as the Pittsburgh Steelers' quarterback is becoming a one-man race. Byron Leftwich is handling nearly all of the first-team snaps in practice, a strong indicator he will be the starter while Roethlisberger serves his six-game suspension for violating the NFL's personal conduct policy.

PITTSBURGH (AP) - Steelers coach Mike Tomlin has agreed to replace his quarterback in putting on a three-day youth football camp that will be held next month at a suburban Pittsburgh high school. The formerly named for Roethlisberger is now being called the Coach Tomlin Football Camp. It will be held June 21st to 23rd at Mars Area High School.

VOORHEES, N.J. (AP) - The Flyers took yesterday off but used it to reflect on a stunning postseason run that has them in the Stanley Cup finals for the first time in 13 years. The team is
hoping win its first title in 35 years when it meets Chicago in the finals that begin Saturday.

PHILADELPHIA (AP) - A New Jersey man has pleaded guilty to intentionally vomiting on a man and his 11-year-old daughter in the stands during a Phillies game. Police say Matthew Clemens stuck his fingers down his throat and vomited on the man and his daughter after his friend was ejected from the park.

PHOENIX (AP) - The Phoenix Suns used outstanding bench play to defeat the Los Angeles Lakers 115-106 last night, evening the NBA's Western Conference finals at two games apiece. Channing Frye and Leandro Barbosa each had 14 points off the bench, and Goran Dragic
added eight points and eight assists to help the Phoenix reserves outscore the Laker subs 54-20. Kobe Bryant's 38 points were not enough for the Lakers, who host Game 5 tomorrow
night.

IRVING, Texas (AP) - The New York Giants and Jets will co-host the first outdoor Super Bowl to be played in a cold-weather location. NFL owners have awarded Super Bowl 48 to the Meadowlands in a game that will be played February 2, 2014. Owners took the maximum four votes before the Meadowlands beat out Tampa, Fla., for the right to hold the game.

CLEVELAND (AP) - Chicago White Sox shortstop and 11-time Gold Glove winner Omar Vizquel says he will probably retire following this season but doesn't want to commit to a decision. The 43-year-old Vizquel is batting .200 in this his 22nd major league season. His Gold Glove total is the second-most by a shortstop behind only Ozzie Smith's 13.

EAST HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) - The U.S. lost to the Czech Republic 4-2 last night in a World Cup tuneup for the Americans. Herculez Gomez tied the game 2-2 for the U.S. in the 65th minute before the Czechs went ahead 13 minutes later. U.S. coach Bob Bradley sat out many his regulars as he tries to formulate his 23-man World Cup roster, which is expected to be announced today.

PARIS (AP) - Men's top seed Roger Federer is among those scheduled to play their second-round matches at the French Open today. Andy Murray also has a second-round match after rallying for a five-sets victory on Monday. The singles schedule includes matches for Venus Williams, Caroline Wozniacki and Elena Dementieva.
