PHILADELPHIA (AP) - Claude Giroux scored 5:59 into overtime to
give the Philadelphia Flyers a 4-3 overtime win over Chicago in
Game 3 of the Stanley Cup finals last night. The win cut the
Blackhawks' series lead to 2-1. Game 4 is tomorrow night in
Philadelphia.
ATLANTA (AP) - Omar Infante came in for injured Chipper Jones
and lined a two-out, run-scoring single in the eighth inning, and
the Atlanta Braves beat the Philadelphia Phillies 2-1 yesterday.
Derek Lowe went eight innings, allowing six hits and the only
Philadelphia run.
ATLANTA (AP) - Atlanta third baseman Chipper Jones left the
Braves' game against Philadelphia yesterday with an injured finger.
Omar Infante replaced him. The 38-year-old Jones has been plagued
by injuries in recent years, though he did play 143 games last
season - his most since 2003.
PITTSBURGH (AP) - The Cubs-Pirates game was postponed after a
more than 3-hour rain delay last night. Fans scattered to lower
levels in the ballpark after a lightning bolt rattled the upper
deck stands about a half-hour into the rain delay. Lightning
crashes periodically shook PNC Park, where the Pirates had not lost
a game to weather this season.
PHILADELPHIA (AP) - NHL general managers are recommending that
players who deliver blindside hits to the head be given a 5-minute
penalty and ejected from games. The league's 30 general managers
unanimously decided Wednesday during meetings at the Stanley Cup
finals that immediate punishment should be handed out by referees
during the games.
PITTSBURGH (AP) - Ben Roethlisberger is taking nearly all the
snaps with the regulars, and apparently will do so until the
Pittsburgh Steelers' voluntary practices end next week. Coach Mike
Tomlin given considerable thought to how training camp practices
will run isn't divulging that plan. The Steelers have to get a
quarterback ready to play during Roethlisberger's six-game
suspension.
PITTSBURGH (AP) - Steelers coach Mike Tomlin says the team is
working with quarterback Ben Roethlisberger to make sure he turns
his life around, but Tomlin is not offering any specifics. Tomlin
says he talks regularly with Roethlisberger, who recently underwent
a behavioral evaluation as part of the six-game suspension given
him by NFL commissioner Roger Goodell.
