ATLANTA (AP) - Troy Glaus with a three-run homer, Tim Hudson
pitched six strong innings around a rain delay and the Atlanta
Braves beat the Philadelphia Phillies 7-3 last night. The Braves
moved to 1 1/2 games ahead of two-time reigning NL champion Phillies,
who have lost eight of 10 games.
PITTSBURGH (AP) - Neil Walker hit his first major league home
run to put Pittsburgh ahead in the eighth and the Pirates beat the
Chicago Cubs 3-2 last night. Walker hit an 0-1 pitch from Ted Lilly
into the seats in the deepest part of the ball park in left-center.
MIAMI (AP) - The Florida Marlins are capitalizing on
Philadelphia Phillies pitcher Roy Halladay's perfect game. The
Marlins are putting tickets on sale for Halladay's gem - as
souvenirs, at face price. Halladay pitched a perfect game over the
Marlins at Miami on Saturday. It was the 20th perfect game in major
league history
PHILADELPHIA (AP) - The Philadelphia Eagles say defensive back
Marlin Jackson ruptured his right Achilles' tendon while practicing
yesterday. A 2005 first-round draft pick by the Indianapolis Colts,
Jackson signed a two-year deal with Philadelphia in March. He is
coming off a pair of season-ending knee injuries.
NEWARK, N.J. (AP) - Seton Hall forward Herb Pope is back at home
in Pennsylvania after a nearly month-long stay in a hospital. Pope
had been hospitalized since collapsing during a workout at the
school in late April. The team would not discuss what caused the
Big East Conference's leading rebounder this past season to
collapse, citing privacy laws.
NEW YORK (AP) - Saturday's matchup between the Chicago
Blackhawks and Philadelphia Flyers earned the best-ever overnight
rating for a Game 2 of the Stanley Cup finals. The game The game
earned a 25.1 rating and 39 share in Chicago. That's up 21 percent
from last year's 3.4 for Red Wings-Penguins.
PHILADELPHIA (AP) - The Philadelphia Flyers' Stanley Cup
championship hopes appear to be in big trouble. But there doesn't
seem to be a reason to panic for Flyers' fans as they get ready to
face the Chicago Blackhawks for Game 3 tonight at home, where the
Flyers are 7-1 in this season's playoffs.
TORONTO (AP) - The Blue Jays have traded Dana Eveland to the
Pittsburgh Pirates for a minor league pitcher. The 26-year-old
left-hander was 3-4 with a 6.45 ERA this season for Toronto. The
Blue Jays acquired 23-year-old righty Ronald Uviedo from the
Pirates in yesterday's trade. Uviedo was 0-2 with a 3.22 ERA in 16
relief appearances for Double-A Altoona.
