CHICAGO (AP) - The Phillies got doubled up by the Cubs 12-6 to
open the season's second half. The Cubs tagged Phillies starter
Jamie Moyer for six runs on five hits in three innings. Aramis
Ramirez hit a pair of two-run doubles, and Derrek Lee and Geovany
Soto each had two-run homers to lead Chicago.
CHICAGO (AP) - The Phillies have activated right-hander reliever
Chad Durbin from the 15-day disabled list, and designated reliever
Nelson Figueroa for assignment. Durbin is 0-1 with a 3.31 ERA in 29
appearances this season. Figueroa was 2-1 with a 3.46 ERA in 13
appearances for Philadelphia.
PITTSBURGH (AP) - The Pirates are on pace for their most losses
since 1952 as they enter the season's second half. Pittsburgh is
hoping to get off to a good start by opening with a 10 game
homestand. First up is Houston tonight. The Bucs have lost nine
consecutive series to the Astros.
RICHMOND, Va. (AP) - The trustee in Michael Vick's bankruptcy
case is seeking repayment of at least $2 million that Vick doled
out to friends and family members in the months before he was sent
to federal prison. A complaint filed in U.S. Bankruptcy Court says
the Eagles quarterback knew his lucrative NFL career was in
jeopardy and that he would be facing huge legal bills.
PITTSBURGH (AP) - An activist group wants to save the longtime
home of the Penguins from the wrecking ball. The Pittsburgh
Post-Gazette reports members of Reuse the Igloo want the facility's
owner to give the group a year to develop a plan to save the
facility. They say the civic arena is part of Pittsburgh's history.
PHILADELPHIA (AP) - Sixers guard Willie Green is joining NBA
players from Africa on a trip to the continent next month as part
of Basketball without Borders Africa. The Philadelphia Inquirer
reports the NBA outreach program will be held in Senegal. The
program gives young African basketball players coaching and
counseling.
VILLANOVA, Pa. (AP) - Andy Roddick led the Philadelphia Freedoms
to a 24-17 win over the Boston Lobsters in World Team Tennis action
last night. Roddick won his men's singles match against Jan-Michael
Gambill 5-4. He also joined with Courtney Nagle to defeat Eric
Butorac and Raquel Kops-Jones in mixed doubles.
